Ex-Liverpool Defender Markus Babbel Says Julian Nagelsmann Was Sacked Because Of His Girlfriend

Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel has stressed that Bayern Munich sacked Julian Nagelsmann because of his girlfriend.

Bayern Munich made a shock move confirming the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann as manager of the club after an inconsistent Bundesliga run.

Despite a brilliant spell with the Bundesliga giants in the Champions League, the club’s hierarchy were reportedly worried about the club’s dwindling form in the domestic league.

Bayern Munich had an underwhelming start to their Bundesliga campaign in 2023 after the World Cup break.

They drew three matches in a row with the same scoreline before returning to winning ways.

But their seemingly brilliant run was marred again when they lost 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen and slipped to the second place, losing the top spot to rivals Borussia Dortmund.

During the international break, Julian Nagelsmann is said to have taken out time with his girlfriend and Bild reporter Wurzenburger skiing and having a nice time before he learned of his dismissal as manager of the club.

He quickly rushed back from the break for a crisis talk with Bayern Munich’s hierarchy and his sack was confirmed with former Chelsea and PSG manager Thomas Tuchel immediately appointed as the new manager.

The news came as a shock to Julian Nagelsmann, but the decision was taken and it was final.

Wurzenburger

Now, according to former Liverpool and Premier League defender Markus Babbel, the shock decision by Bayern Munich to relieve Julian Nagelsmann of his duties as the club’s manager is related to his relationship with his girlfriend and Bild reporter, Wurzenburger.

Wurzenburger stopped working as a Bayern Munich correspondent when she started dating Nagelsmann. She was previously covering Bayern Munich for a popular Germany media outlet, Bild.

According to Babbel, the Bavarians had to axe Nagelsmann from his role at the club due to conflict of interest and fears of leaking confidential information to the press.

Babbel said the move to sack Julian Nagelsmann was not sublime but due to the relationship of the former Bayern Munich boss to the reporter.

Markus Babbel says Julian Nagelsmann is sacked because of his girlfriend Wurzenburger

He added Nagelsmann’s relationship with Wurzenburger has been an enduring topic in Bayern Munich’s dressing room and the club did not like it that the 35-year-old was dating the reporter.

Some players were said to be so reserved with their comments or grievances because they think Nagelsmann will pass it to his lover and ends up on the media from Bild.

“It didn’t go over well at all that he was with her. His girlfriend was therefore a big problem for Bayern”, the ex-Liverpool star said.

“There was a breach of trust because some players just weren’t able to communicate what they were thinking anymore.

“Because they were afraid that everything would end up in the newspaper.”

Julian Nagelsmann is said to have ended his 15-year-old relationship with his wife and started dating Wurzenburger immediately.

Their relationship blossomed while both were serving Bayern Munich – Nagelsmann as manager and Wurzenburger as a journalist before Wurzenburger was pressured to exit her role at the club after their relationship became public.
