21-Year Old Black Woman Makes History, Opens Homeless Shelter in Los Angeles

Miriam Haregot, an African American woman from Los Angeles, who just turned 21 years old, has successfully an abandoned church into a homeless shelter. She is possibly the youngest Black woman to ever open a shelter in the state of California.

“It feels good to be able to provide people a sense of humanity because the world just lacks it, you know, so much so. It’s good to be the change you want to see,” Miriam told Fox LA.

Following the shelter’s renovation, Miriam launched the P.A.C.K. Project, which stands for People Advocating Community Kinship. She said they are a group of entrepreneurs, creatives, and other youth from South Central that aims to provide food, housing, and educational programs to those who are homeless and at-promise kids.

Every month, the P.A.C.K. Project goes to Skid Row to serve up hot meals for the homeless, calling it “Feed The Homies.” It’s a small but impactful way to make a difference and spread some kindness.

Since then, the 1,000 km (620-mile) front line remained largely static save for some minor offensives one way or the other – that is until Ukraine launched a lightning incursion into Russia’s Kursk region this summer.
