Jody Morris admits he’s been quite shocked by Cole Palmer’s performances so far in a Chelsea shirt.
It’s been quite a few months for Cole Palmer, who’s gone from Manchester City squad player to one of the first names in Chelsea’s starting XI. This has even led to a first senior call-up to the England squad this month, too.
The 21-year-old is making a huge difference right now as the extra bit of quality in the attack. He’s got four goals and four assists in 11 Blues appearances so far.
Speaking via talkSPORT this week, Jason Cundy hailed Palmer as a “magnificent” talent with leadership qualities.
Jody Morris can’t quite believe just how quickly Palmer’s started in his Chelsea career.
The left-footed attacking midfielder is emerging as a key figure going forward, with his confidence and general technique standing out on the eye test.
“I’ve known about Cole Palmer for years, but I have to say even I’m surprised. I’ve seen him perform in youth teams and Under-23 teams and stuff like that, but even I’m surprised,” Morris told BBC’s Football Daily Podcast.
“I always knew he was a talent, but the way in which he’s carrying himself… He has surely felt the confidence of someone like Chelsea, someone like Pochettino, wanting to sign him.”
Cole Palmer exceeding expectation so far
We doubt many people would’ve expected Palmer to become so important at Chelsea in such a short space of time.
It was another busy summer window with so many incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge. In particular, the arrival of players such as Moises Caicedo and Christopher Nkunku brought the most excitement. Caicedo is beginning to find his feet in midfield after a shaky start. Meanwhile, Nkunku’s yet to make his competitive debut due to injury.
As for Palmer, he’s looked straight at home pretty much from the moment he arrived in West London.
The English playmaker has the ability and composure to string things together for a forward lin that has struggled in recent times.
