Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Chelsea are in pole position to sign Victor Osimhen this summer from Napoli.
He told the ‘Talking Transfers’ podcast that the transfer looks as if it would be perfect for the Blues at the end of this season.
Osimhen looks set to be on the move at the end of the season, with bridges seeming to be burnt between the player and his current club.
This means he is very unlikely to sign a new contract with the Serie A side, and therefore a transfer looks on the cards.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with the Nigerian international, after it has become clear a top-quality striker would be a big bonus at Stamford Bridge.
Now, Bailey has put them down as strong favourites to pull off a deal for the striker described as ‘world-class’ by Folarin Balogun.
Chelsea in pole position for Osimhen
He said: “I think Osimhen’s had Chelsea written all over him for a long time. We saw him talk about the Saudi Pro League, but not everything is driven by money.
“I think, what’s happened at Napoli in terms of the disrespect and the way the club have treated him. He’s not going to sign this new deal. We’ve written that Chelsea are waiting to see what he does with his contract.
“As long as he doesn’t sign this new contract, he’ll be leaving in the summer. He’s far too good a player for one team to be interested in, but I’d still put Chelsea in pole position for him. They need him, he fits Chelsea like a glove.”
Despite Nicolas Jackson getting amongst the goals in recent weeks, it does feel as if the position could certainly be strengthened.
If the Blues want to act before the summer, they may be tempted to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.
