Zayn Malik teased plans for his first-ever solo tour and talked about his creative process in a new interview.
Fresh off the release of his new album Room Under the Stairs, the 31-year-old crooner played his first solo concert earlier this month. It came nine years after he departed One Direction to launch his own music career.
Now that he’s checked off his first performance, Zayn was optimistic about heading out on the road.
In the interview, he also addressed pressures to stay true to himself in his art instead of playing a character.
“The chances are pretty high,” he said about a solo tour during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up. “Yeah. Getting straight back into rehearsals as soon as I can and I’m gonna get a show together ’cause I really enjoyed the Shepherd’s Bush gig.”
He continued, saying, “The response from the fans was amazing, so I want to feel a bit more of that love, you know?”
On the topic of his music, Zayn said, “I don’t want to play a character, you know.”
“I want to be me, and it takes longer and takes more self-reflection and it’s a longer process, you know? So, I think, you know, when people have a deadline and they want to get things out for a business sense, that would make sense, you know, for you to make things that fit different character backdrops or whatever, but for me, I just want it to feel genuine and like it comes from me, so yeah. It’s always the main intention behind my creation,” he explained.
If you missed it, Zayn recently revealed a big regret from his time as a boy bander.
