One Piece: 8 Devil Fruits With Unexplained Powers
Devil Fruits are known by various names in different parts of the One Piece world. Some consider them a curse, while others believe them to be magic. Whatever people may call them, there is no denying that Devil Fruits are an incredible source of power.
There are three main types of Devil Fruits: Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia. Out of them, Logia-type Devil Fruits are the rarest, as they offer control over elements. So far, One Piece fans have witnessed the power of many Devil Fruits, but there are some whose abilities still remain a mystery.
Updated on May 11th, 2024, by Suzail Ahmad: With the story entering its final phase, the stakes are at an all-time high. Even the smallest mistake can prove to be fatal, which is why every character goes all out in fights. However, there is a small minority of characters who have yet to show off their full power. Oda is very likely saving them for the last couple of arcs. Due to this, it is almost impossible to figure out what their Devil Fruits can do. With that in mind, here are some Devil Fruits whose power remains unknown to the masses.
The list includes Devil Fruits, whose full name and abilities have not yet been shown.
8. The Devil Fruits Of The Five Elders
Class: Mythical Zoan
The Five Elders are among the most powerful individuals in One Piece. They are only answerable to Imu, so they can pretty much do whatever they want. For years, fans speculated whether the Five Elders were just old men with no fighting experience. In the Egghead arc, it was proven that the Five Elders are more than just decent fighters. Each of them had insanely powerful Haki, and if that wasn’t enough, they also had supernatural powers that enabled them to turn into creatures that were inspired by different mythologies.
There is a good chance that these abilities are a result of the Devil Fruits that they are. Oda did reveal what kind of mythological creatures they can transform into, but he has yet to divulge the complete details. Also, it is still unclear how Saturn was able to summon the other Five Elders. Hopefully, Oda will disclose the secret before moving on to the next arc in the story.
7. Imu’s Devil Fruit
Class: Mythical Zoan
Imu is the true sovereign of the World Government. They are a descendant of the Nrrona Family, which was one of the twenty founding members of the World Government. According to Ivankov, Imu might be immortal as a result of the Immortal Surgery of the Ope Ope no Mi. So, they have possibly been alive for centuries, and they have watched the world change. Imu’s position allowed them to control the entire world from the shadows.
Aside from their political authority, Imu also seems to have a Devil Fruit, but it is unclear what kind of power it provides. While its nature remains unknown, it is safe to assume that Imu’s Devil Fruit is incredibly powerful. Oda wouldn’t give the biggest villain in the story an underwhelming ability. When Imu finally shows off their power, the entire world will be shocked.
6. Onigumo’s Devil Fruit
Class: Zoan
Onigumo is a Navy Vice Admiral who strongly believes in Absolute Justice. As a follower of such a radical ideology, it is no wonder that he killed an underling who questioned his decision to shoot down another Navy ship. Onigumo has an unnamed Devil Fruit, which allows him to transform into a spider. He can create up to six arms using his hair, and each of them can hold a saber. Since the name of the Devil Fruit is unknown, it remains to be seen whether he has a regular spider Zoan or something special like an Ancient Zoan.
5. Lafitte’s Devil Fruit
Class: Mythical Zoan (Possibly)
Laffitte was known as the “Demon Sheriff” because of the atrocities that he committed during his time as a law enforcer in West Blue. He eventually joined the Blackbeard Pirates and became a valuable member of the crew. Lafitte is the chief of staff of the Blackbeard Pirates, so he has more responsibilities than the other crew members.
Laffitte is a clever individual with splendid negotiation skills. He is also well-versed in hypnosis, as evidenced by the fact that he managed to put the Impel Down guards under his spell. Laffitte is a Devil Fruit user, and this information was revealed in an SBS. Oda did not reveal what kind of Devil Fruit Laffitte has in his arsenal, but it seems to give him a pair of wings. Needless to say, this Devil Fruit likely has other powers, which will be revealed in due course.
4. Urouge’s Devil Fruit
Class: Paramecia
Urouge is a member of the Worst Generation who made his debut in the Sabaody Archipelago arc. He is the captain of the Fallen Monk Pirates, and unfortunately, he hasn’t had enough screen time to show his worth. Urouge’s only feat involves fighting and defeating Charlotte Snack, a Sweet Commander of the Big Mom Pirates.
Urouge possesses an unnamed Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to turn physical damage into strength. He used the Devil Fruit’s power against the Pacifista and proved to be almost an equal match for the weapon. Due to his limited screen time, it is difficult to figure out what other powers Urouge’s Devil Fruit has. Hopefully, Oda sheds some light on Urouge and his power.
3. Bonney
Class: Paramecia
Jewelry Bonney is the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma. She has been on the run from the World Government for a long time. Bonney’s aim was to find Dr. Vegapunk, as the genius scientist was responsible for her father’s present condition.
Jewelry Bonney possesses an unnamed Devil Fruit that allows her to alter the age of any individual that she touches. Bonney can incapacitate her opponents by turning them into toddlers or very old people. Considering the fact that the World Government was chasing her, there might be more to the Devil Fruit than meets the eye.
Bonney’s Devil Fruit name has been confirmed. This happened in an SBS, where the One Piece author revealed that Bonney possesses the Toshi Toshi no Mi. She received the power as a result of Saint. Jaygarcia Saturn’s inhuman experiments.
2. Boa Hancock
Class: Paramecia
Boa Hancock is the captain of the Kuja Pirates and a former Shichibukai. She was offered the position after her voyage because the World Government immediately recognized her threat. Boa Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi is a key reason for her absurd strength. With its power, Hancock is able to turn living beings to stone. The Devil Fruit works on the feelings of lust that a person may bear toward Hancock.
However, it doesn’t make sense for her to be able to petrify non-living beings such as the Pacifista. Another thing that points to the Mero Mero no Mi having an unexplained power is Blackbeard’s invasion of Amazon Lily. The Yonko is known for only making a move if he desperately wants something. He already has two overpowered Devil Fruits, so why would he go out of his way to get Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi? The answer may lie in the Devil Fruit’s history, which may be revealed down the line.
1. Yami Yami no Mi
Class: Logia
The Yami Yami no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that was sought after by Blackbeard. He waited for years to get his hands on the Devil Fruit. But it was Thatch who found it instead of Blackbeard. The latter didn’t hesitate a bit to kill his fellow crewmate and steal the Yami Yami no Mi. It has various powers, one of which allows the user to nullify the abilities of other Devil Fruits.
It also gives the user complete dominion over the element of darkness, which devours everything. The darkness also has a strong gravitational force that crushes anything it takes in. The Devil Fruit also seems to have an unexplained power that allows Blackbeard to steal the powers of other people. It is very likely that it was this unknown ability that enabled him to pinch the Gura Gura no Mi from Whitebeard.
