Kanye West slashes the price of his concrete Malibu mansion by $14 million.

The gutted property, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is now asking $39 million

Kanye West has just chopped a whopping $14 million from the price of his gutted concrete house in California’s upscale Malibu in a move that will spell a multimillion-dollar loss for the controversial rapper and designer.

The home, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is now asking $39 million.

West, who now legally goes by Ye, acquired the oceanfront property for $57.25 million in 2021 using a limited liability company, and first tried to part with it at the start of this year for $53 million, records show.

Even though the price reduction “will constitute a financial loss, we’re hoping that this encourages those people who have seen and those who have yet to see [the property], to move forward and to recognize the value and opportunity,” said listing agent Jason Oppenheim of the Oppenheim Group. “I think the original price has deterred offers.”

Currently, the concrete abode is no more than a starchitect-designed shell. West began a gut renovation shortly after his purchase that he hasn’t completed, according to The Wall Street Journal, which reported on the home initially hitting the market.

All interior finishes have been removed from the roughly 4,000-square-foot beach house, and work is needed to either restore or reimagine them, according to the listing. Alongside new interiors, the house needs new windows, doors, plumbing and electrical work.

One crucial feature that remains, though, is the home’s architectural integrity, according to Oppenheim.

Though currently looking quite different, the home’s architectural integrity is still in tact.

Best known for minimalist concrete structures just like this one, Tadao Ando’s build used approximately 1,200 tons of concrete, 200 tons of steel reinforcement and 12 massive pylons driven more than 60 feet into the sand, according to the listing.

Ando is “arguably the most sought-after residential architect in the world—it really represents a Picasso in real estate with the opportunity to curate to your own liking,” Oppenheim said. “With a few million dollars of investment, [the house] will be better than it was when it was purchased.”

A representative for West, 46, couldn’t be reached for comment.

The Grammy-award winning music artist, who has sold some 160 million records worldwide, has made headlines in recent years for controversies rather than his music.

In 2022, he lost partnerships with brands like Adidas and Gap following antisemitic remarks. Last week it was revealed he was being sued by a former employee who accused him of discrimination and creating a hostile work environment.
