Cena plays the title character in Ricky Stanicky… to a certain extent, anyway, in this upcoming comedy.

The story follows three best friends (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, Jermaine Fowler), who have used a completely non-existent person named Ricky Stanicky as the alibi for all of their misdeeds as children.

They have kept up the act well into adulthood, using this fake friend as an alibi, though when their wives and family all want to meet him, they hire an actor (Cena) to play their fake best friend.

The film had been in development since 2010, when James Franco was attached to star as the title character for director Peyton Reed (Ant-Man).
