Andre Onana has been hailed by Manchester United fans
Manchester United’s Andre Onana produced the ‘save of the season’ to deny Erling Haaland what looked like a guaranteed goal on the stroke of half-time.
Haaland had already found the net for Manchester City, sending the Cameroonian keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. And just moments after Ederson had been called into action by Scott McTominay, Onana was on hand to deny Haaland.
Julian Alvarez hooked the ball across the goal, with Haaland unmarked at the back stick. The big Norwegian nodded the ball towards the goal, but Onana managed to scramble across his line to palm the ball away.
“So thrilling… I’m so happy he is showing his worth right now when it matters,” one fan said. While a second responded: “Unbelievable save. Lucky to not have gone in 2-0 down!”
“Great save. Where the ball ends up too is key. Unlike the early one that he had to make a great save to recover and rely on Maguire to clear,” a third said. And another added: “He’s slowly repairing his reputation…”
Erling Haaland somehow missed the chance
Speaking ahead of the game, Ten Hag said: “You give him the standards and also the expectations, but also it’s about getting to the same level. He has high expectations from himself.
Erling Haaland didn’t make the same mistake second time around
“We give him the confidence, look what you did in the past for great clubs in great leagues, you have the ability and the skills!”
Onana had the chance to produce an identical save in the second-half, with the ball stood up for him at the back post. However, this time, Haaland was able to head the ball home.
