In July 2022, five sisters from the same parents made headlines when they graduated from the Nigerian Law School together. They are the daughters of Dr Tor Uja, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, and his wife Berry, who have been married for 35 years.
The sisters, who are all lawyers now, shared their joy and excitement on social media, where they received congratulatory messages and praises from many people. One of them wrote on her Instagram page: “We’re siblings, of the same man and woman; these are not costumes… we’re actually lawyers! All of us 5” .
Their educational journey was not an easy one, as they had to overcome various challenges and stereotypes in a society that often undervalues the girl child. They attended different universities across Nigeria and abroad, where they studied law and excelled in their academic pursuits. They also had to cope with the rigorous and competitive nature of the law school, where they spent a year preparing for the bar exams.
The sisters are not only remarkable for their academic achievements, but also for their passion and dedication to their chosen profession. They have expressed their interest in various fields of law, such as corporate law, human rights law, intellectual property law, and international law. They have also shown their commitment to using their skills and knowledge to serve their country and humanity at large.
Their story is an inspiration to many young girls and women in Nigeria and beyond, who aspire to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world. They have proven that with hard work, determination, and faith, anything is possible. They have also demonstrated that women can excel in any field they choose, and that they deserve equal opportunities and respect in the society.
According to the latest statistics from the Council of Legal Education, which oversees the Nigerian Law School, out of the 5,689 candidates who sat for the bar exams in 2022, 1,589 made first class and second class honours, while 3,897 made pass grades . The overall performance of the candidates was 78.6%, which was an improvement from the previous year . The statistics also show that female candidates performed better than male candidates in terms of grades .
The sisters are part of the growing number of female lawyers in Nigeria, who are making their mark in the legal profession and contributing to the development of the country. They are also role models for the younger generation of Nigerians, who look up to them for guidance and motivation.
The sisters have expressed their gratitude to their parents, who supported them throughout their educational journey and instilled in them the values of excellence, integrity, and service. They have also thanked God for His grace and favour upon their lives. They have vowed to continue to work hard and uphold the ethics and standards of their profession.
The sisters are indeed a quintet of legal stars, who have made history by graduating from law school together. They are a source of pride and joy for their family, their community, and their nation.
