Speaking to InStyle, the star said that she was told to ‘lose a few pounds’ in order to get rid of her curvy physique and succeed as a pop star.

Addressing the criticism in the music industry, she said: ‘They didn’t bother me at all. But I got a lot of flack for it from people in the industry.

‘They’d say, “You should lose a few pounds”, or “You should do this or do that”. It finally got to the point that I was like, “This is who I am. I’m shaped like this”.

‘Everybody I grew up with looked like that, and they were all beautiful to me. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I still don’t!’

The Shades Of Blue actress added that her family, particularly her mother and grandmother, were the ones who helped her stay positive when it came to her body image.

‘My dad loved my mom’s body – all the men in our family loved the women’s bodies,’ she said.

‘Being curvy or not being 6 feet tall was never a bad thing; it was actually something that was celebrated. And so, later on, when I brought that in front of the world, I wasn’t really trying to send a message. I was just being myself.’

Despite her raunchy display, Jennifer can expect no complaints from her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, who she recently admitted loves her killer moves.

Speaking on the Today Show last week, she said: ‘He loves to dance, but – he loves to watch me dance, and to – he loves dancers.

‘He just loves it. He just loves dancing and music, and so he’s so into it – lucky for me, because I dance a lot.’

The singer has been dating A-Rod, a former baseball player, for well over a year, and recently gushed he is ‘so lovely and supportive’ of everything she does.

Meanwhile Jennifer has held her residency at Planet Hollywood since January 2016, and will perform her final Sin City show in September.

The All I Have tour sees the singer perform a string of her endless hits for fans, including Jenny From The Block, Love Don’t Cost A Thing and I’m Real.

Despite releasing her first single in 1999, Jennifer is showing no signs of slowing down – having unveiled her newest track Dinero last month.

The tune sees the New York native team up with producer DJ Khaled and female rapper Cardi B.

And Jennifer opened up about Cardi B to Sway Calloway on TRL AM.

‘You know, it’s funny, I followed Cardi on Instagram for like four years now,’ the singer revealed.

‘She was just, you know, working in the clubs and talking to her phone from bed. But there was something about her that was so — I didn’t even know she was from the Bronx, that’s not why I was watching it.

‘She would speak in a way that would make sense to me. She had a tremendous insight about life, people, and the way they acted and what they did.

‘I just found her very funny and amusing and I guess it was because it reminded me of the girls I grew up with,’ Lopez added. ‘And my family!’
