Ice Spice may be one of the hottest new artists of 2023 but the star paid homage to one of the classics during her latest performance.

Betty Boop is a character created by Max Fleischer who first made her appearance in 1930 and was featured in 90 theatrical cartoons through 1939.
Meanwhile, back in September, Ice revealed she was left ‘so confused’ by The 1975 singer Matty Healy‘s racist remarks about her on a podcast – before the star made several groveling apologies.
In February 2023, during an appearance on The Adam Friedland Show the Brit singer, 34, claimed he had tried to message Ice on Instagram – before he along with Friedland and co-host Mullen appeared to confuse her heritage by referring to her as Inuit and Chinese, imitating and mocking the accents of each.
The podcast episode was later pulled from both Spotify and Apple Music because of its offensive content.
Speaking to Variety, Ice, who has now collaborated with Healy’s ex, superstar Taylor Swift, said: ‘When I had heard that little podcast or whatever, I was so confused. Because I heard “chubby Chinese lady” or some s**t like that, and I’m like, “Huh? What does that even mean?”
‘First of all, I’m thick. What do you mean Chinese? What? But then they apologized or whatever. And the whole time, I didn’t really care.
Adding that Healy had now apologized, she said: ‘But that’s funny because I saw him at the Jean Paul Gaultier party a couple days ago, and he was like, “Hey, you OK?” and I’m like, “Of course.” He apologized to me a bunch of times. We’re good.’

In April, Matty apologized on stage to Ice Spice and insisted he ‘never meant to hurt anybody’.
Noting that he is ‘genuinely sorry’, he said during a New Zealand concert: ‘Sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued, it’s ’cause I don’t want Ice Spice to think that I’m a d***.
‘I love you Ice Spice…. It’s OK for me to be like, a trickster or whatever, but I don’t want to be perceived as mean-hearted…
‘We all get it wrong, and I just have to do it in public and then apologize.’

The pair were seatmates, with Ice saying of her Karma collaborator: ‘That’s my sis. We was talking about a bunch of things. She’s so funny. We was sipping on a little something something. Just chatting, vibing.’
Taylor said in an email to the publication that she could ‘relate to Ice in so many ways’, writing: ‘She’s extremely professional without being cold. Playful and fun without ever taking her eye off the prize. She knows what is and isn’t ‘her’ and sets those boundaries with grace.
‘She studies the industry and other artists’ careers but is very clear about charting her own definitive, original path. It’s her ability to carefully find that balance that impresses the hell out of me.’
