A natural on iconic US chat shows, adored by viewers and hosts, is there anything Harry can’t do? We take a look at his finest American TV hosting moments from over the years
It’s not just with his music and movies that Harry Styles has managed to win a legion of fans. His natural charisma and stage presence have made him a hit with TV audiences too, most notably as a prime booking for America’s iconic late-night shows.
From standout performances and comedy skits on Saturday Night Live, to Carpool Karaoke with James Corden – even standing in for him as the host of The Late Late Show – Harry has proven countless times just how much the camera adores him.
“Harry is that rare celebrity who actually enjoys appearing on late-night television and he’s been a big hit here in the States,” Michael Starr, TV editor for the New York Post, tells OK!
“It’s obvious Harry’s having a good time during his appearances and that always makes it much easier for the host, who can loosen up and share in the fun. Harry is self-deprecating, which is always a plus and happy to appear in skits, besides performing a song or two.
“His Carpool Karaoke segments with Corden are classic late-night TV and he’s always game to play the on-air games with Jimmy Fallon that are such an integral part of The Tonight Show.”

Saturday Night Live
Long-running sketch show Saturday Night Live is regarded as an American institution and it’s a true sign of success to appear as a musical guest. Harry first starred on the show with One Direction in April 2012 and again in December 2013 and December 2014.
After releasing his first single, Sign Of The Times in April 2017, he appeared as the musical guest on SNL later that month alongside host Jimmy Fallon, blowing audiences away with his comedic charm – most notably with his impression of Mick Jagger in a Celebrity Family Feud sketch.
“In going above and beyond his musical guest duties on this week’s SNL, Styles proved what his die-hard fans have been saying all along – he’s more than just a haircut,” writer Joanna Robinson wrote for Vanity Fair at the time.
Two years later, Harry pulled the ultimate double whammy and was announced as the main host and musical guest. He had audiences in stitches during an impressive series of skits, where he played everything from an overeager intern determined to get his team lunchtime chicken burgers, to an airline pilot who accidentally talks pure filth over the intercom. His opening monologue won praise for exuding confidence and charisma and he only broke character momentarily during a sketch midway through the show.
The SNL cast heaped praise on Harry after his stint, with actress and comedian Cecily Strong describing him as “magical”. She added, “I think it’s safe to say we were all enchanted and delighted and he should host so much more because he’s very good at this.”
SNL regular Chris Redd also showered Harry with compliments, calling him “fantastic” and “down for even the wildest of ideas”.
Critics were similarly impressed with Harry’s skills, with Forbes magazine insisting he may have just become “the most loved” SNL host to ever grace the screen.

The Tonight Show
Considering Harry’s talent for comedy, it’s no surprise that he had instant chemistry with Jimmy Fallon. The US talk show host was loved for his exuberant humour when he was a cast member of Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show – which he now hosts – is famed for its comic skits and games.
Jimmy was also the SNL host when Harry appeared in 2017 as a musical guest and the pair bonded after their dressing rooms were across the hall from one another. The singer has appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show a number of times and Jimmy even dressed as Harry in his signature pearls and oversized collar to perform a parody of Vogue’s 73 Questions.
In 2016, Harry even jokingly jumped in Jimmy’s chair for a brief moment after making a wish to host the show.

The Late Late Show
When James Corden took over from comedian Craig Ferguson as host of The Late Late Show in 2015, he made sure his mate Harry was on hand to help draw in big audiences.
“There is nothing Harry cannot do,” James has said of his friend. “Just generally, there is nothing out of the realms of possibility for him. He has that thing that is unquantifiable, like Justin Timberlake has.”
One of James’s biggest hits was his Carpool Karaoke segment of the show, where he invited celebrities to chat and sing on a drive together. First created as a sketch with George Michael for Comic Relief in March 2011, he launched the idea on his US show and featured huge names from Mariah Carey to Paul McCartney. But the Carpool Karaoke skit that James and Harry filmed together in May 2017 has proven to be one of the most-loved, amassing more than 78 million YouTube views.
That same year, Harry stepped in as a guest host at the last minute when James’s wife Julia Carey went into labour with their daughter. He proved such a natural, he was invited back to host again in 2019 when James took time off to shoot a film.
After delivering an amusing opening monologue, he also played a game of Spill Your Guts with his ex Kendall Jenner and even got behind the wheel for his own Carpool Karaoke.
“Everyone was so impressed with him and how lovely and down to earth he was off camera,” a producer for The Late Late Show tells OK!
“He’s simply a joy to work with and he did such a great job.”
