One Piece: What Will Happen To Garp?

After being defeated by his former disciple, Garp’s future remains unclear. Could this be the end of one of One Piece’s most iconic characters?

Monkey D. Garp is one of the most well-known characters in One Piece. He joined the Marines along with Sengoku and Tsuru. All three of them went on to become highly respected Marines and cemented their place in history. While the trio is considered nothing short of legendary, it is safe to say that Monkey D. Garp is the most famous of the three.

He rose through the ranks quickly and became a Vice Admiral. Garp was offered many chances to become an Admiral but he turned them down. Garp has been involved in only a handful of One Piece arcs, as Oda wanted to save him for the Final Saga. In the Egghead arc, Garp made a move that landed him in serious trouble.

Why Did Garp Decide To Attack Hachinosu

Garp is a free-spirited individual who doesn’t care much about rules. He will do whatever he wants and not care about the consequences. When he learned about Koby’s kidnapping, he decided to go and rescue his protege. Koby was taken captive by the Blackbeard Pirates while he was on a mission to capture Boa Hancock. Blackbeard wanted to use Koby as leverage to strike a deal with the World Government. Since Koby was a reputable Marine, the Yonko believed that using him as a bargaining chip would work. However, he had no idea that Koby was a part of SWORD, making him one of the few dispensable soldiers within the organization.

While Koby was trapped on Hachinosu, Hibari and Helmeppo went to Prince Grus in hopes that he would help them rescue their friend. But Grus turned them down, labeling it too risky to head into a Yonko’s territory like that. Not long afterward, Garp arrived at their location, and he told Helmeppo and the others that they would be going to Hachinosu. Upon their arrival, Garp used one of his stronger attacks to destroy a large part of the island.

Master Vs. Student

As Garp and the other young Marines began to scourge the island for Koby, the Blackbeard Pirates appeared. Their captain was missing, but there were still many Titanic Captains on the island. Avalo Pizzaro used his Shima Shima no Mi to take over the island and start attacking the Marines. Garp was engaged in a fight with his former student Kuzan, who had joined the Blackbeard Pirates after his leaving the Marines.

Kuzan and Garp locked horns in what was a fierce fight, with neither of them looking to back out. While Garp was on his own, the other members of the Blackbeard Pirates were continuously interfering with the fight. They were attacking the other Marines, forcing Garp to step in. Shiryu, in particular, used this opportunity to injure the Vice Admiral with his sword.

As Garp and Kuzan continued to fight, it looked increasingly likely that the latter would secure the victory. Garp’s fate was sealed when he tried to protect the young Marines from another serious attack by Pizzaro. This allowed Kuzan to defeat and freeze him. It was reminiscent of how Kuzan froze Vice Admiral Saul in Ohara all those years ago. With Garp gone, the Marines have suffered a major blow.

What Will Happen To Garp?

As Garp has been frozen by Kuzan, he is probably locked up in Hachinosu. The Blackbeard Pirates won’t kill him; instead, they will wait for their captain to return before making a decision. As previously stated, Blackbeard wants to make Hachinosu a country affiliated with the World Government. He was planning to use Koby to broker an agreement, but somehow he ended up getting someone even better. Garp is the Hero of the Marines, and his name is known throughout the world. If news were to get out that the World Government abandoned its biggest hero, there would be severe repercussions. So, there is a good chance that the organization will now be willing to listen to Blackbeard’s demands and allow him to become the king of his own country.

However, if the World Government decides to turn down Blackbeard’s demands, then things will be quite different. The Yonko wouldn’t want a character with the strength of Garp on the loose, so he might try to kill him. This is when Koby and the other Marines might intervene and try to save him. Koby and his group need better fighters to undertake the task of rescuing Garp. Since they are affiliated with SWORD, there won’t be many Marines willing to help them.

But there is a possibility that two of Garp’s best friends might join them. Garp is close to Tsuru and Sengoku, both of whom are veterans. They won’t let Garp die at the hands of the Blackbeard Pirates. Tsuru is still a Vice Admiral, while Sengoku is an instructor, so he has more freedom when it comes to making choices. With the backing of these two characters, it is highly likely that Garp will be rescued from Hachinosu.
