Grammy award-winning artist, Billie Eilish, recently unveiled the depth of her childhood obsession with pop icon, Justin Bieber, during a candid podcast. This revelation has shed new light on the emotional turmoil she experienced in her early teens, and the profound influence Bieber’s music had on her.
From Obsession to Distress
Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, humorously admitted to considering therapy for her daughter due to the intense distress caused by Bieber’s influence. Eilish, known for her openness about her own mental health struggles, including suicidal thoughts, traced the genesis of her Bieber obsession back to when she was just 12 years old.
A Shared Journey
During the podcast, Eilish expressed a deep empathy towards Bieber’s experiences with fame. She recalled a pivotal moment when Bieber reached out to her via direct message, sharing a tweet she had posted years earlier. This exchange was the starting point of their professional relationship which later led to a collaboration on a remix of Eilish’s global hit, ‘Bad Guy’.
Turning Pain into Art
Bieber, who has faced his own struggles under the limelight, expressed a protective sentiment towards Eilish, hoping to shield her from the harsh realities of fame. Eilish, now in a happier place and shedding fewer tears, has managed to transform her past obsession into an inspirational and creative force in her career. Her story is a poignant reminder of the power of music and its ability to both wound and heal.
Justin Bieber gets emotional over desire to ‘protect’ Billie Eilish
Justin Bieber broke down in tears as he spoke of his intense desire to “protect” teenage superstar Billie Eilish from the same pressures of fame that he says almost killed him.
“Yeah, so um, yeah — I just want to protect her,” Bieber told Beats 1 interviewer Zane Lowe, wiping away tears, taking deep breaths and sniffing loudly in a clip Eilish, 18, shared with her fans.
“I don’t want her to lose it. I don’t want her to go through anything I went through,” he told Lowe, having admitted elsewhere that his path of self-destruction from finding fame so young almost killed him.
“I don’t wish that upon anybody. So um, yeah, if she ever needs me I’m just a call away,” said Bieber, now 25.
Eilish has never hidden her love for the Biebs — and posted photos of her wearing one of his shirts as well as her bedroom covered in his posters alongside the clip of his tearful interview.
“Love you !!!” Bieber commented on her post.
