Packers 2024 schedule won’t include Aaron Rodgers and the Jets

The Green Bay Packers still have one very important game left on their 2023 schedule today against the Chicago Bears.

But after Sunday’s early-game results, their 2024 schedule is taking shape.

And for those Packers fans or TV networks hoping to see Aaron Rodgers potentially play at Lambeau Field as a member of the New York Jets next season, that dream is dashed.

Here’s why.

Packers schedule 2024: Aaron Rodgers, Jets won’t play at Lambeau Field

Regardless of the Packers (8-8)-Bears (7-9) outcome, Green Bay will finish in second place in the NFC North. The Packers’ 2024 schedule includes a game against the team that finished in the same spot as them in the AFC East.

That team will be either the Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills. Those two teams face each other on Sunday night for the AFC East. The loser of that game finishes second. The Jets, who finished 7-10, were locked into the third spot heading into their game against the New England Patriots.

The second or third positions were the only possibilities for the Packers entering today. After the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Detroit Lions today, the Packers are guaranteed the second spot, though they also want a playoff berth.

NFC North outcomes

The Vikings concluded their 2023 season at 7-10 and they’ll be either in the third or fourth spots based on today’s Packers-Bears outcome. A three-way tie of 8-9 between the Packers, Vikings and Bears would have given the Vikings the edge but that now can’t happen.

If the Bears defeat the Packers to improve to 8-9, Chicago will finish third and the Vikings will be fourth.

If both the Bears and Vikings finish at 7-10, the Vikings have the tiebreaker over the Bears due to their record over common opponents. That will put the Vikings in third and the Bears last.

What happens if the Packers and Bears both finish 8-9?

The Packers have the tiebreaker.

In this scenario, the Packers and Bears would have split their season series and then would both have 3-3 records against NFC North foes. The next tiebreaker comes down to common opponents and the Packers would have a one-game edge in this category. That puts the Packers ahead of the Bears even with a loss.

What this all boils down to is that Rodgers won’t be coming to Lambeau for a game in 2024, something he had said during a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” would be fun and emotional.

But he also mentioned that he would look forward to to another trip to Soldier Field and play the Bears, a team we all know he has owned in his career.
