Taylor Swift has spent the majority of her youth in the public eye and is—arguably—the most famous entertainer alive. Because of the massive interest, it follows that her relationships are often scrutinized by the press. That said, Swift has been relatively private about her romances, only adding to the social frenzy.

She’s Leading the Relationship:

While Kelce was the first to show interest in their relationship, Swift has had a level of narrative control that seems to have alluded her in previous relationships. Between shaking the football world by attending Kelce’s games and changing lyrics in songs during concerts to reference Kelce, to kissing him in front of thousands of screaming fans, it’s clear that Swift is exercising agency in the relationship.

Swift most recently changed the lyrics to the song ‘Karma’ during an Eras Tour performance from “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me”, a reference to previous boyfriend, Joe Alywn, to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me.”

They Have Mutual Respect:

Kelce famously pursued Swift first, by attending a concert and attempting to gift the singer a friendship bracelet with his phone number. (Friendship bracelets are often exchanged at Swift’s concerts between fans.) He has been vocal in his admiration of Swift and publicly supportive of her endeavors.

He Isn’t Her “Type”:

Swift has mostly dated artists, including Tom Hiddleston, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles. Kelce is the first athlete she has been publicly connected to and the first American since 2012, when she dated Connor Kennedy.
