Clearly emotional, the 67-year-old famously blind singer started out by saying while he hasn’t seen the sky and the birds in his lifetime, he’s seen other things.
‘I’ve seen leaders talk about annihilating life… I’ve seen people hating people… I’ve seen people killing people in churches… I’ve seen hate marching down the street disguised as a cry for equality,’ he recalled in what was the show’s most poignant speech.
‘If I can see if, I know you can see it.’

Clasping Dave’s hand, Stevie then took a knee on the stage.
‘I take a knee for America, and two knees in prayer for our world,’ he said, on the back of Trump’s recent inflammatory remarks regarding sportsmen who refused to stand for the National Anthem as a sign of protest.
Later taking his place at the piano, the Isn’t She Lovely singer gave a moving rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine, accompanied by the Dave Matthews Band.
They then collaborated on a rousing rendition of Stevie’s hit, Superstition.
Changing up the lyrics slightly, Stevie sung: ‘I’ll take a knee for love, I’ll take a knee for unity, I’ll take a knee for America, I’ll take a knee for the world.’
Like Stevie, Pharrell also took a knee at the concert – admitting he was doing it in solidarity with his home state.
‘If I want to get on my knees right now for the people of my city, for the people of my state, that’s what this flag is for,’ the 44-year-old, who hails from Virginia, told the crowd.
Pharrell stepped onto the stage in a pair of black Adidas sweatpants, which featured Asian lettering down the sides.
The Happy singer also donned a colorful tie-dye T-shirt printed with a yellow smiley face, beneath a black denim jacket.
