The Los Angeles Lakers have cooled down a bit after winning the 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament. The Lakers have a record of 16-15 and sit ninth in the Western Conference. LA has been hot in trade rumors after news of the team’s interest in Zach Lavine and Dejounte Murray surfaced. The team is prioritizing two things in its search despite boasting the services of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Los Angeles is seeking speed and athleticism before the NBA trade deadline, per the Laker Files (h/t Adrian Wojnarowski). The first two players on the Lakers roster that come to mind when considering these attributes are LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
James and Davis have spearheaded LA’s attack in 2023. James is older but is still one of the most athletic players in the NBA, and Davis’ two-way play speaks for itself. However, the team wants more physical firepower to make the squad more competitive.
Murray is a Swiss Army knife for the Atlanta Hawks. The seventh-year guard averages 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Murray fits the athleticism bill as a two-way force whose motor is endless.
Meanwhile, Zach Lavine is one of the fastest guards in the league when it comes to slashing and finishing at the rim. Lavine is coming back from a foot injury but that will not stop the Lakers from pursuing his offensive prowess—the 28-year-old averages 21 points per game for the Chicago Bulls.
As the NBA trade deadline comes closer, Los Angeles is hoping to upgrade the attributes of its team with players who are fast, athletic, and most importantly, can help the team win.
