Ackles himself expressed gratitude for being a part of the series, saying, “They’ve been incredibly welcoming. I didn’t have to overly prove myself. Everybody, I think, here was like ‘Oh, he’s probably as messed up in the head as we are.’ And they were right.”

Debuting in Season 3, Soldier Boy was a World War II-era hero and the first person successfully empowered by the drug Compound V. He went on to lead his own team of supes, Payback, before they betrayed him, and he was captured by Russian intelligence in the 1980s. The Boys, seeking a way to kill Homelander (Antony Starr), stumble onto Soldier Boy and release him, with him agreeing to help the Boys in exchange for their aid in tracking down his former teammates. The season ends with Soldier Boy seemingly killed by Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), but he’s revealed to have survived and is in the custody of former CIA agent Grace Mallory (Laila Robins).

Another Supernatural Alum Is Coming to The Boys

It’s unknown if Soldier Boy will return for The Boys‘ fourth season, but he won’t be the only Supernatural alum to join the cast. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Rob Benedict have both joined the series, though it’s unknown what characters either will be playing. Already confirmed to appear will be Rosemary DeWitt as Hughie’s mother and Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward as two new supes, Firecracker and Sage. In addition, Cameron Crovetti, who plays Ryan Butcher, will be promoted to a series regular for Season 4.

Prime Video is also developing a spin-off to The Boys, Gen V, which will follow students at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting as they train to become Vought International’s newest superheroes. Amazon’s Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, has promised that the stories of the two series will be connected. “I think people will be surprised as they come into the show, and the show evolves, the implications that Gen V has on The Boys,” he said. “The two shows have some really interesting connections. So I’m probably saying more than I should, but I’m really excited. We’re thrilled with the results.”
