Before becoming globally famous, Rosé and the BlackPink members lived together in a cramped dormitory. The female singer said this was a time when living conditions were not very good, as most idols had to go through.
The group once attracted attention when appearing in a luxury apartment while filming a reality show. However, like most idols, the members have to share smaller dorms where conditions are not so good.
Like most Kpop idols, BlackPink lived in dorms for a long time before becoming famous globally.
Sharing in JTBC’s reality show Sea of Hope , BlackPink’s Rosé not only showed off her singing voice but also told stories about her career.
In this episode, Rosé shares a room with singer Suhyun (AKMU) and actress Kim Go Eun. All three were in a small room but they all had a good time. In particular, Go Eun seemed to feel new and enjoy this experience compared to the other two.
Rosé explained that the feeling of living with others in a dorm is not new to her because she has had 8 years of experience.
The female singer said things were not always as good and comfortable as many people expected, especially when Rosé first came to Korea and before she made it into the debut lineup with BlackPink.
“When I first came to Korea, I was not in the debut squad. At that time, there was still no confirmation as to who would debut. Therefore, the space where we used to live was not as beautiful as this” – the singer born in 1997 shared.
This is not the first time Rosé and the other members talked about the difficulties they had to endure before debut, especially the place where there were many insects. In an episode of the reality show 24/365 with BlackPink , the girls revealed how they lived with cockroaches and centipedes for a long time.
According to the members, only Lisa was brave enough to catch them. The girls said they were grateful to the youngest because they were all too scared to handle it themselves.
Having to live in a bad space is something most idols have to go through. That is still the reality of the idol world before they can debut and become stars, regardless of whether the idol is from Big 3 or a small company.
Before debut, living in the dormitory together seemed to be a mandatory condition. This makes it easy to manage, control, and manage work. Besides, living together is a good method to help members become cohesive and work well as a team. This is also a way to help trainees and idols reduce their expenses. Living and training expenses will be calculated after they debut and make a profit.
When achieving certain success, music groups and artists will have more comfortable accommodation. In better conditions, they are allowed to move out but must still ensure the group’s common schedule. With the BlackPink group, the members have been separated for a long time and live in a luxurious and comfortable space.
