‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Used 1 Obvious Arc To Set Up X-Men’s Entry Into the MCU Long Before Deadpool 3

Long before the Multiversal saga took off, it seems the MCU might’ve been setting up mutants with Age of Ultron.

With The Marvels‘ ending teasing the arrival of X-Men in the MCU, it’ll interesting to see how they will fit into the ambitious multiverse saga. However, back in 2015, when the sequel to the first Avengers hit the big screens, it appears the seeds of introducing X-Men were already sown back in Age of Ultron, which at the time of its release failed to live up to its predecessors.

Although many have come to appreciate it for what it is and its technical improvements over the first one, it appears the movie had more beneath its surface, which might’ve paved the way for mutants.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)Avengers: Age of Ultron Might’ve Been Originally Crafted as a Set-up for X-Men

Ditching their comic roots, in MCU’s adaptation of Wanda Maximoff and Quicksilver, the two were a result of the High Evolutionary’s experiments instead of being Mutants. In the same month as Age of Ultron‘s release, Marvel Comics published Uncanny Avengers (Vol 2) #4 that reiterated the same stuff, which allowed them to introduce the two in the MCU despite not having the rights to X-Men.

However, it didn’t stop the MCU from planting the seeds for the mutants, as one Reddit user pointed out that Ultron’s plans might’ve been to create mutants all along. Furthermore, his plans to evolve humans keep on echoing throughout the movie, which might’ve allowed the MCU to introduce mutants as a creation of Ultron. Nonetheless, fans will witness X-Men in the MCU pretty soon assured Kevin Feige.

X-Men is perhaps one of Marvel’s biggest assets, and Kevin Feige is being pretty careful about how to merge them in the cinematic universe he has crafted over the last 15 years. While he assured that fans will get to witness them soon, especially with The Marvels teasing their arrival a month ago, it’ll be exciting to see how things unfold for the iconic IP moving forward. He told EW:

“Part of the fun is that I’ve been at this company for half my life, and we’re just now tapping into arguably one of the biggest aspects of the publishing history,” he said. “It’s pretty remarkable, and it’s a testament to the house of ideas and what Marvel publishing has done these 80 years. The question is how to do it and when to do it, and that’s something we’ve been working on for years.”

Even though X-Men are set to make their appearance pretty soon within the confinements of the MCU, it’s still unclear whether Ultron will be returning to Marvel in the foreseeable future or not.
