Goldie Hawn has shared a story from her early years in the industry, accusing famed cartoonist Al Capp of ๐ e๐ฅually harassing her during an audition at the age of 19.
โI had a script and I was reading for this script,โ Hawn, 76, recalled of the 1964 incident on SiriusXMโsย โThe Megyn Kelly Showโ Friday. โI go to Park Avenue at the time Iโm supposed to meet with him. Next thing I know Iโm in this rich guyโs apartment, and heโs famous and his name is Al Capp.โ
Capp โ who died in 1979 โ is the famed cartoonist and humorist best known for his satirical comic strip, โLiโl Abner.โ
โIn he walks with his โ I didnโt know he had a wooden leg, but he did โ well, he walked like he had a wooden leg. He had this insidious grin. It was really ugly,โ Hawn continued. โAnd he said, โIโll be back in a minute, Iโm just going to slip into something.โ And he came back in a robe. So now I am freaking out because I am recognizing that something is going on.โ

โNow Iโm thinking to myself, โI better let him know Iโm a good girl, I better let him know that, whatever heโs thinking, itโs not going to happen.’โ
โSo I talk about my mom and my dad, and the fact that they wanted me to marry a Jewish dentist, and I wanted him to know that I was religious,โ she said. โI wanted him to know that I had scruples.โ
Hawn went on to say that Capp asked her to slowly walk toward him with a โstupidโ expression.

โโLook stupid. Look like an imbecile,’โ she claims he ordered before asking her to raise the hem of her skirt for a better look at her legs.
While she initially obliged, lifting her skirt just above the knee, his demand for her to raise it โhigherโ led to the beauty refusing.
โHe said, โCome on over here and give me a kiss.โ I was shocked, but I expected something like that,โ she continued.ย โAnd so I went over to the couch because I wanted him to know that I wasnโt going to run out of the room, I was going to stay calm, and whatever. And he pulled over hisโฆwhatever that robe wasโฆand his whole apparatus, his whole wiener, was literally lying there.โ

At this point, Hawn made it clear that the audition would go no further.
โI looked at it and I said, โOh, Mr. Capp, Iโll never get a job like this.โ And he said, โWell Iโve had them all, and nothing will become of you.โ And I said โThatโs okay, Iโm a dancer anyway, but Iโll never get a job like this.โ And he said, โWell, you just go back and marry a Jewish dentist.โ And I said โOh, I might.โ And I walked out,โ Hawn said.

As she left in tears, she realized that NYCโs L train was not running, and that she needed to get to her dancing gig at the 1964 Worldโs Fair.
โHe threw me $20 for a taxicab. It wasnโt a good day,โ she added.
In 2017, Hawn recalled the storyย to People, calling the encounter, โso scary.โ
