Cardi B Wants Her Daughter To Know Having Money ‘Doesn’t Mean You’re Super-Privileged’

Cardi B has made no secret of the fact that she loves the finer things in life — whether it’s her jaw-dropping jewelry collection and pricey designer handbags or her impressive fleet of luxury cars. Since becoming a mom, she’s been all about spoiling her daughter, too. Two-year-old Kulture Kiari already has her own hot-pink Hermès Birkin bag, a mini Rolls Royce, and more than $80,000 worth of diamond bling.

But despite her lavish lifestyle, Cardi wants Kulture to be aware of the struggles people face.

In a new interview with Billboard magazine, which named her its 2020 Women of the Year, the WAP singer opened up about her hopes to bring up Kulture with an understanding of the world around her — in particular, the racial injustices that pervade society.

“I want her to grow up knowing how the world really is,” she explained.

She plans to teach Kulture that money doesn’t always shield you from the harsher realities of life.

“My daughter came out of (me) rich. She lives a different lifestyle than I lived. This girl gets in a pool every single day; I can’t swim because I barely went to the pool. There was only one community pool where I’m from,” Cardi said. “I want her to know that just because you have money, that doesn’t mean you’re super-privileged.”

Cardi wants to raise her daughter to have “compassion” for others.

Despite being “rich and famous,” Cardi said she and her soon to be ex-husband, Offset, have had their own bad experiences with law enforcement — and she hopes to teach her daughter that she won’t be immune to injustices either.

“I want (Kulture) to know that (she’s) not going to be an exception,” she explained. “I want her to have compassion. I don’t want her to ever have the mentality of, ‘This doesn’t apply to me.’”

Cardi also worries about how Kulture will handle life in the spotlight.

As one of the music industry’s most successful — and, let’s be honest, controversial — artists, Cardi certainly gets a lot of attention. Now that she’s a mom, she is anxious about how all the public scrutiny will impact Kulture, especially the not-so-nice comments that flood into her social media accounts.

“I’m a little scared that she gets to read nasty comments, but I don’t know how I’m gonna be able to control it,” she admitted to Billboard. “I heard about a celebrity who gives their kid life coaching on how to love themselves and not let people break them. Hopefully, I can do the same thing.”

Above all, Cardi just wants Kulture to grow up to be confident and strong.

Although she admitted that she can be “a little crazy” as a mother, Cardi said she hopes she can instill positive values in her daughter. “I always want her to know that she’s beautiful. I want her to be confident always,” she told Billboard.

When it comes to haters, Cardi will encourage Kulture to stand tall and shrug off the negativity. “Don’t let one comment break you and make you feel like you’re not that girl,” she said. “You that girl.”
