Jay-Z becomes the most Grammy-nominated musical artist in history after being put up for three awards at the upcoming 64th ceremony

Jay-Z has officially become the most Grammy-nominated musical artist in history.

The 51-year-old hitmaker received the distinction on Thursday, when it was announced that he had been put up for three separate awards at the forthcoming 64th annual ceremony.

The performer was previously tied with the legendary producer Quincy Jones, who matched the rapper’s 80 nominations up until this year.

Trailing Jay-Z is former Beatle Paul McCartney, who has been nominated for a Grammy Award 81 times to date.

The bassist was previously tied with the rapper’s wife, Beyonce, for second place.

The performer’s first Grammy nominations came in 1999, when he was put up for the awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

The Brooklyn native ultimately won the first of the three for his work on his third studio album, Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life.

The performer went on to win 23 total Grammy Awards over the next few decades.

The hitmaker’s distinctions have been given out as a result of his work as a rapper, writer and producer.

The media personality’s most successful years have been in 2009, 2010 and 2012, when he took home three awards during each year’s ceremony.
