F1 Academy racer Abbi Pulling, 21, makes history as she becomes first woman ever to win British F4 race

ABBI PULLING has made history as the first ever woman to win a British Formula Four race.

The 21-year-old led from light to flag in Race Two at Brands Hatch as she etched her name in the history of the sport.

Pulling, who has been racing in cars since 2018, began in pole position and continued her superb form behind the wheel.

The Brit was coming off the back of a double victory in the all-female F1 Academy championship at the Miami International Autodrome last week.

Pulling has become a dominant force this season in the F1 Academy after failing to win a single race last year.

But she has built on her previous seven podiums from the last campaign and is translating her wins across the academy and British F4.

Sports broadcaster and F1 expert Natalie Pinkham was quick to congratulate the up and coming talent on her success.

Taking to X she wrote: “Magnificent moment in history 👏❤️👍 well done @AbbiPulling 😍”.

Pulling is fifth in the F4 standings this season, while she is leading the way in first place for the 2024 F1 Academy standings – where she will be hoping to extend her lead in Barcelona in two weeks time.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Pulling’s dominance this season is that all F1 Academy drivers are heading onto the track in the exact same car.

The Rodin Motorsport driver has explained how her self-belief is key to her success this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, she said: “A big thing that I have said this year is keeping positive and keeping smiling – I always say ‘a happy Abbi is a fast Abbi’.”

She added: “I think the mind is the driver’s strongest tool, having a strong mindset can really really benefit your on-track performance.

“You’ve got to believe in yourself before others believe in you, you’ve got to really tell yourself ‘I can do this and I am capable’.

“And give yourself confidence 1000 per cent, otherwise you can get in your own head and you can end up getting in a bad place mentally.

“Like I say, it’s one of the driver’s greatest tools and I think it can be overlooked sometimes.”
