Mortal Kombat is book ended by the famed rivalry of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, the two first battling as Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Bi-Han in the movie’s prologue in feudal Japan. Hanzo later returns in the final showdown of Mortal Kombat, teaming up with Cole Young (Lewis Tan) to defeat Sub-Zero, with both fights being major highlights of the film. With Bi-Han’s teased return and potential metamorphosis into Noob Saibot, Scorpion coming back seems all but a forgone conclusion.
In turn, that would make Hanzo facing Bi-Han for a third time very likely in Mortal Kombat 2 with Bi-Han’s return as Noob Saibot. This would also suggest that Scorpion’s presence in Mortal Kombat 2 is likely to be considerably more significant, building upon Scorpion’s memorable role in the beginning and end of Mortal Kombat. Of course, with Bi-Han battling Scorpion as Noob Saibot, that also makes room for another character’s introduction in Mortal Kombat 2.
