Real Reasons Why Ronda Rousey Lost at WrestleMania 35 After Botched Pinfall

SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey discussed the botched ending of her WrestleMania 35 match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

Ronda Rousey has addressed the widely talked-about controversial ending in the main event of WrestleMania 35, more than three years later.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair made history by competing in the very first women’s main event WrestleMania match. The winner of the bout would become the holder of both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships, which saw Lynch emerge victorious by pinning Rousey.

Fans were confused by the ending, as Rousey got one of her shoulders up to seemingly break out of the decisive pinfall. But the referee immediately declared Lynch the match winner, thus handing Rousey her first loss since joining the WWE.

Rousey discussed the botched finish during an appearance on The Kurt Angle Show (h/t WrestlingNews.co).

“I didn’t think my shoulder was down,” Rousey explained. “I was trying to flatten out to put my shoulder more down. That’s what was happening. I thought it was just the very tops of my shoulders, so I was trying to shimmy down so the actual back of my shoulders was down and I didn’t know that he had already started counting, so I’m worried that my shoulder came up during the shimmy. So I was trying to help, but it ended up being awesome because now I have a gripe to revisit. That wasn’t on purpose. I apologized about that one. It wasn’t until later that I was like, ‘Oh (expletive), my bad.'”

Rousey would then take a hiatus fom WWE that lasted almost three years. The former UFC star made her highly-anticipated return during this year’s Women’s Royal Rumble match, which she won to set up a WrestleMania 38 bout with Flair. In a major surprise, The Queen defeated Rousey via pinfall to retain her title.

However, Rousey would get her revenge by defeating Flair at WrestleMania Backlash one month later to become the new SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Just over a month after WrestleMania 35, Lynch went on to lose her SmackDown Women’s title to The Queen at Money in the Bank. However, Lynch would hold the Raw Women’s Championship for over a year before handing it over to Asuka on the May 11, 2020 episode of Raw. Lynch announced she was pregnant and awarded it to Asuka following the latter’s victory in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch At WrestleMania 39?

WWE fans have waited a long time for a rematch between Rousey and Lynch following their story-filled 2019 feud. Back in February, it was reported that Rousey vs. Lynch was planned for WrestleMania 39 next year. That would obviously be an ideal time to run the rematch, but WWE’s WrestleMania plans can always change. Here’s hoping WWE finally runs the long-awaited Rousey vs. Lynch singles match by WrestleMania 39.
