The Undertaker issues major update on his future after WWE WrestleMania cameo

WWE icon The Undertaker admits he’s ready to ‘flip the page’ on his wrestling career following his appearance at WrestleMania XL.

The Deadman made a spine-tingling cameo in the main event of the WWE spectacle in Philadelphia earlier this month.

At the climax of the Undisputed WWE title clash between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, the legendary Taker emerged to topple Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who’d interfered in the bout.

The huge crowd erupted at the sound of Undertaker’s legendary gong, as the Phenom appeared behind Rock, delivering a chokeslam and promptly vanishing as quickly as he’d arrived.

It made for one of the most memorable moments of the entire WrestleMania weekend, aiding Rhodes to an historic triumph.

Such a thrilling cameo also appears to have worked wonders for the veteran performer, who explained getting to perform – albeit briefly – in front of such a huge crowd gave him a much-needed sense of finality.

On missing being an active member of the WWE roster, he explained via Six Feed Under: “I’ve been struggling with it since I retired, but [WrestleMania] weekend gave me closure. It really did.

“It was fun. Doing this for as long as I have and being involved in that, and how important that storyline was and is.

“When it was over and I’m running out of the building, I’m like: ‘I’m good now.’

“My last match was in the Boneyard, and nobody was there. [WrestleMania XL] was a moment of clarity that I had: ‘I’m okay now.’

The Undertaker memorably called time on a phenomenal 30-year wrestling career with the cinematic Boneyard Match at WrestleMania in 2020.

He defeated AJ Styles in the classic encounter, the on-location bout proving a unique way to sidestep the fact WWE had closed its doors to live crowds during the COVID pandemic.

In going through the rigors of that match, the real-life Mark Calaway knew it was time to bring his active career to an end.

So, too, he reiterated that WrestleMania XL allowed him to decide it’s time to move on with his career, which has included a podcast and a live stage show.

The 59-year-old didn’t go so far as to rule out a similar cameo in future, adding: “I’m not saying I won’t do something like that in the future, but I don’t have that feeling in my chest like I’ve had since I retired, that I hadn’t come to peace with it.

“I knew, just like I knew it was over in the Boneyard Match at four in the morning.

“I’m good. I had no clue, but once it was done, I was like ‘You’re good, man, it’s time to flip the page and go to the next chapter.’

“It was such a cool weekend all the way around, and to finish off and have closure to the wrestling part of my career, it was so cool and a great feeling.”
