‘Great on the ball’… Levi Colwill raves about £39m Chelsea star he loves playing with

Levi Colwill has had a decent debut season in Chelsea’s first-team squad despite the chaos around him, and he’s named a player he loves playing with.

Levi Colwill, who’s still only 21, is one of the few Blues stars to consistently perform in what’s been a really challenging campaign for the squad.

The English centre-back, who’s covered at left-back for large sections, should be the future of the Chelsea defence.

He’s played 32 games across all competitions this season, albeit he’s missed the last month with a toe injury.

Colwill has delivered a glowing verdict when discussing one fellow Blues defender.

Axel Disasi, 26, is the Chelsea centre back he rates as a player and loves playing alongside.

“Axel is a great defender, great on the ball. I can always trust him if anything is going down his side – I know he’ll handle it,” Colwill said via Chelsea’s official website.

“Especially with him celebrating every tackle, it kind of lifts the whole team, lifts me and he has got me doing it a few times too! I do really enjoy playing next to him.”

Axel Disasi still needs to convince us

It’s a huge tick when your peers speak so positively about you. However, we still need some convincing that Disasi can be a starting centre-back for Chelsea in the long-term.

Overall, the £39 million centre-half (Sky Sports) has had a mixed debut season in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Disasi is likeable with his all-action defending and character, but he’s guilty like most of his teammates of too many individual errors this season.

We think Colwill’s a bit generous with praise of Disasi as a ball-playing central defender, too. It’s an area of his game we’d like to see him sharpen up if he wants to be in the best XI moving forward.

Our feeling is Disasi’s done enough to warrant another chance next season, but he’s got to take his game to another level as one of the more senior figures.
