Travis Kelce makes stunning proposition to retired Rams star Aaron Donald that could shake-up NFL and cement Chiefs’ three-peat

Travis Kelce has extended a fascinating invitation to Aaron Donald that could shake-up the NFL if accepted.

Last week, Donald, a legendary defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams, announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 incredible seasons.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is one of the most dominant defensive players the league has ever seen but has decided to call time on his career age 32.

On a recent episode of their ‘New Heights’ podcast, Travis and Jason Kelce discussed the Future Hall of Famer’s illustrious career.

During the segment, the Chiefs tight end made a bold proposition to Donald to come out of retirement and win one more Lombardi Trophy with Kansas City next season.

“Shout-out to AD, unbelievable career,” Kelce said.

“If you wanna win one more Super Bowl, we’ll probably have some availability somewhere in December”, he cheekily added.

Kelce’s offer was more tongue-in-cheek than anything and it’s unlikely Donald would take him up on it.

But if he did it would send shock-waves around the NFL and spell bad news for every other team hoping to prevent a Kansas City three-peat in 2024-25.

Jason was full of praise for the ten-time Pro Bowler and claimed he’s the best defensive player of the last decade.

“Man what a career it was,” Jason said.

“This is the most iconic defensive lineman since my time in the NFL”.

However, as good as he was, No.99 never had a sack against Jason’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Jason it’s only because they double and triple-teamed him every single game.

“He is the only defensive tackle we’ve ever gone up against where the entire game-plan is situated on not having him ruin the game – the only one,” the elder Kelce said.

“There was not another player that was treated in that light, not a defensive end, not a defensive tackle, nobody, not even Micah Parsons.”

Jason continued to wax lyrical about Donald, adding: “Just an absolute bulldog of relentless energy, power, speed – the guy had everything.

“In my mind he’s the best defensive player – and I don’t think it’s particularly close – over the last decade.

“It was unreal how good he was. He’s the GOAT from when I was in the league.”

Donald’s greatness over the last decade is undeniable.

The high-point of his stellar career came during the 2021 season when his Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

Donald was the one who sealed the victory for the Rams after pressuring Bengals QB Joe Burrow into throwing an incomplete pass which essentially iced the game for LA.

He is the Rams’ all-time sack leader (111) which is the second-most among primary defensive tackles in a career behind John Randle’s 137.5.

AD is also one of only three players to win the Defensive Player of the Year award three times, along with Lawrence Taylor and J.J. Watt.

Donald and Barry Sanders are also the only players in NFL history to play 10 seasons in the league and get selected to the Pro Bowl in every season.

The 32-year-old shared a highlight video and pictures on social media on Friday announcing his decision to retire, captioning the post, “Cheers to what’s next. Extending a big thank you to the Rams and all of the fans for your support over these last 10 years. Much love.”

In a lengthy statement he said: “For 10 years, I have been fortunate to play the game of football at the highest level.

“I’m thankful for the people I’ve met along the way, the relationships I’ve built and the things I’ve accomplished with my teammates and individually.

“Throughout my career, I have given my everything to football both mentally and physically — 365 days a year was dedicated to becoming the best possible player I could be. I respected this game like no other and I’m blessed to be able to conclude my NFL career with the same franchise that drafted me.

“Not many people get drafted to a team, win a World Championship with that team and retire with that team. I do not, and will not, take that for granted.

“As I turn my focus to a new chapter, I don’t know what the future holds, but I am excited about the off the field possibilities. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my wife, Erica, and my kids, Jaeda, AJ, Aaric and Aali.

“The greatest reward was being able to play this game with them by my side, and I can’t wait to watch them live out their dreams just as they watched me live out mine.”
