‘The three best’… Pat Nevin names his top Chelsea players of this season

As a whole, Chelsea have just not been good enough this season.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are currently 11th in the Premier League table and lost the Carabao Cup final against a very young Liverpool team.

However, a few players have done really well in the current campaign, which obviously includes Cole Palmer. And BBC pundit Pat Nevin has now included the attacker in his top three footballers at Stamford Bridge this term.

Palmer’s numbers have been ridiculous for someone who had not played too much senior football before moving to west London.

The 21-year-old scored and provided an assist in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Leicester City in the FA Cup yesterday to take his goal contributions tally to 26 following his switch to Pochettino’s side. Carney Chukwuemeka could not stop raving about his team-mate after the triumph over the Foxes.

Alongside Palmer, Nevin thinks Malo Gusto and Conor Gallagher have been the top performers at Stamford Bridge under Pochettino.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former Chelsea winger said: “Gusto, Palmer, Gallagher, those are the three best players Chelsea have had this season.”

Cole Palmer has been Chelsea’s best player

In terms of Chelsea’s standout performer in the current campaign, it has undoubtedly been Palmer.

Again, the England international has posted some really good numbers this term. You take all of those goals and assists away and Chelsea are probably in the relegation zone and out of the FA Cup.

Jason Cundy has claimed that Palmer is a “beautiful player to watch”, and right now no one can really dispute that.

Palmer is on course to win Chelsea Player of the Year, while he must also be in with a shout of claiming PFA Young Player of the Year.

With the Blues having a difficult season, the former Manchester City man will not care about individual awards too much. Nevertheless, he can look back at what he has done in the current campaign and be proud.
