‘Special’… Mauricio Pochettino explains why he’s been blown away by 21-year-old Chelsea player

Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer deserves every bit of praise he’s receiving this season for an excellent debut year at Stamford Bridge.

Despite only being only 21, Cole Palmer walked into the Chelsea dressing room last summer and has quickly become the outstanding player.

The England international has been on fire for the Blues, which is even more impressive when you consider the team’s form has been very inconsistent.

He’s now up to 13 goals and 11 assists in 33 Chelsea appearances.

Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has been raving about his star man this week.

In particular, he thinks Palmer is “special” for the way he’s walked into a new club and settled immediately.

“It’s no surprise that he is showing great personality and character,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.

“The way that he adapted really quick to a new club like Chelsea and adapted to the demands of this coaching staff and dealt with the pressure of playing in a big club like Chelsea, that makes him special, and then his quality is there.

“The most important thing is how he handles the pressure, because we have amazing players but sometimes they struggle and they need time to deal with that. It was amazing, the way that he adapted to a new club and now it feels like he’s been at this club for 20 years.

“He plays easy, doesn’t feel the pressure and performs in the way that he can do, because the quality is there.”

Special Cole Palmer

Palmer looks mature beyond his years on and off the pitch, so we agree it’s pretty amazing to see how quickly the youngster’s made Chelsea his home.

It’s crazy to think supporters are expecting him to deliver now every game he plays. He rarely lets them down, too.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast last month, Chelsea legend Eden Hazard described Palmer as a “top player” and gave his approval.

We’re not sure Chelsea have owned an individual talent in the same vein as Palmer since Eden Hazard left in 2019. Of course, the 21-year-old’s got a long, long way to go before he matches the Hazard legacy.
