The eye makeup is an evolution of Grande’s iconic “cat eye” look and one she’s been leaning on lately amid news of the upcoming release of her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine. Grande announced that the album is set for release on March 8, just days after the release of its first single, “Yes, And?”

Apart from wearing the trendy eye makeup in the music video, Grande also took a page from Paula Abdul’s book by taking inspiration from her “Cold Hearted” music video. The video integrates dance moves, a plotline and a wardrobe inspired by the iconic 1989 clip. Abdul, 61, called the homage “An Honor.”

In a reflective Instagram Story post in December, Grande opened up about her year and the love she put into her upcoming projects.

“I gave everything i could have possibly given of my heart and of myself to the projects i was fortunate enough to be a part of and learned so much from every brilliant, beautiful, soul that i had the provellge of creating art with and crossing paths with this near,” she wrote.
