Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is worried that Romeo Lavia may have picked up an injury during last night’s win against Crystal Palace.
The Blues secured an important 2-1 home victory on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat London rivals Palace thanks to goals from Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.
Next, Chelsea travel to Luton Town on Saturday for their final match of 2023.
Chelsea debut
Romeo Lavia, 19, finally made his Chelsea debut against Palace after missing the first half of the season through injury.
The £58million midfielder (Sky Sports) came off the bench for the final half an hour, but there’s a chance he may have been injured on his debut.
“I’m a little bit worried about Roméo Lavia,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.
“He finished with some issues, but I hope it’s not a big issue.”
Romeo Lavia injury
An injury to Lavia on his first Chelsea appearance would perfectly sum up the club’s poor luck this season, but fans will have to wait patiently for an update.
With the Blues back in action this weekend, Pochettino should soon provide some further detail.
Lavia looked busy after entering the action during the second-half of Chelsea’s win over Palace.
The Belgian defensive midfielder played until he full-time whistle, but it sounds like he battled through the closing stages.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via X last month that everyone at Chelsea is convinced that Lavia is a “key player” for the club moving forward.
This would be a frustrating blow if he’s set for more time on the sidelines.
