Following his move to Inter Miami and reuniting with former Barcelona teammates, Luis Suarez confidently asserts that it will be a matter of time before he rekindles his partnership with Lionel Messi, delivering a warning to the club’s rivals.

Luis Suarez has warned Inter Miami’s rivals that it won’t take him long to reignite his partnership with Lionel Messi.

The Uruguay striker, 36, completed his move to Major League Soccer on Friday, signing a one-year-deal with Inter Miami.

The move sees Suarez join former Barcelona teammates Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets in South Florida.

Suarez amassed 195 goals and 113 assists in 283 appearances for Barcelona between 2014 and 2020. Together with Messi, Alba, Busquets and Co, he helped the Catalan side win the Champions League, the Club World Cup and four La Liga titles.

‘I feel great – I’m happy and really looking forward to this challenge,’ Suarez said.

‘I’m here to help them achieve their dreams of winning more titles, achieving great things and (proving) that Inter Miami can fight to win MLS – which is everyone’s dream.’

‘Another factor in deciding to join Inter Miami is that there are friends and great players there,’ Suarez added. ‘The best player in the world is there and that generates great expectation.

‘Being with them for many years, having achieved many things together, makes us know each other well. We don’t need much time to understand each other on the pitch.

‘And I’m coming from the same mentality that they had of wanting to help. And I have the same hope and desire of all Inter Miami fans – to win another title.’

Suarez arrives in MLS having spent the last year playing for Brazilian side Gremio and the Uruguay international believes his successful spell in South America proves that, even at 36, he is far from finished.

‘We had an incredible year and it’s another demonstration that i’m doing well – both soccer-wise and phyiscally. That makes me really excited to start 2024,’ he added.

‘There’s very little time left until we start again. I think it’s a great opportunity from Inter Miami for me to keep showing that I can keep doing great things in soccer and help Inter Miami grow.’

He added: ‘We’re going to have a great year in which we hope to give the fans all the joy they desire. And that we’ll fight until the end to achieve those dreams.’
