Danny is working on music in Daniel’s apartment when Phyllis shows up at the door. Danny tells her Daniel’s at a meeting. She has a housewarming plant, a succulent, “They tell me you can’t kill them. Sort of like me.” Danny teases it’s too soon. He invites her in and she admires his work set up and then invites him out to lunch.

Phyllis notices he’s working on new music. Danny tells her he’s putting it on his new album. She’s excited for him and asks if the song she helped him with will be on it. Danny says it will. She recalls that he said she inspired him, “I’m like your muse. Unless Christine is your muse.” Danny decides he’ll take her up on her lunch offer.

Chance finds Christine at Society and tells her he’s feeling good when she asks. She tells him he’s exactly what the department needs, but he breaks the news that he’s officially leaving the force. Christine asks if it’s because he was shot — this is a drastic decision and she’s surprised. This has been his life for as long as she can remember. Chance says Jill has offered him a position at Chancellor-Winters. Chris argues the world needs more cops like him, not more businessmen. Chance hopes he can do some good. Christine thinks he’ll find it hard to walk away from something so important to him. Just then, Summer arrives and stops to eyeball Chance.

Chloe walks into Crimson Lights and spots Nick. They discuss the peppermint mochas before she asks, “Are you OK?” He says he is, but she’s not buying it. Chloe thinks it’s because of Sally. Nick tells her that their relationship is professional now and he’s fine with that. Chloe complains that Adam is pulling her back into his evil vortex. He says it’s not his problem, but she says it is. He needs to try again with her. Nick tells her it’s too late, but Chloe argues there’s still a chance for him and Sally. Nick tells her that Sally knows exactly who Adam is and was willing to risk everything to be with him. Chloe complains that he messed with her mind and Nick abandoned her. All she needs is for him to say he wants to give their relationship another chance, “How can you give up so easily?”

Nick tells Chloe that nothing about this has been easy, but he’s accepted that Sally wants Adam. Chloe argues that Adam is tricking Sally. “You are the one, Nick. You are the one she needs.” Adam will just break her heart again. Nick appreciates Chloe being in his corner and assures her it will work out. Chloe won’t let him leave and pleads with him that he and Sally could be great together, “All you have to do is fight for her. Please.”

Sally and Adam meet at the Club for lunch, and he tells her he doesn’t want to mess this up. Sally asks, “How do we do this whole non-date thing?” Adam guesses what she’ll order and she muses, “You know me.” Adam says this is what they do best. Sally muses, “What if I want dessert?” Adam intones, “Well, dessert is always available.” Sally asks if he really thinks they can hit the reset button. Adam is willing to try and hopes she is too. Adam pulls out some hot sauce and hands it over to Sally, who asks if it’s safe to bring their past into the lunch. They talk about work, and she says she’s excited every morning. Now that she has Chloe with her again, the sky’s the limit. Adam is glad she came on board even though she despises him. Sally concedes she hates him to the bone. Adam says that, regardless, he’s glad she’s working with someone she trusts and who will always have her back.

Talk turns to Newman, and Adam admits he and Victor are in a whole new era of connection and positive communication, “At least for now.” Sally marvels at him turning into the teacher’s pet. Adam attributes it to honesty. Sally teases, “It’s a big risk. Could totally backfire.” Adam tells her when he believed Victor was ill, everything shifted. It hit him, “I’m not ready to let the old man go.” If they’re destined to battle to the death, he needs him in peak form.

At the motor hotel, Jordan tells Eve’s picture that it won’t be long now until the Newman family gets what they deserve, “Every last one of them, and they will never see it coming.” Her phone goes off and she muses, “Finally, an APB. Took them long enough.” She mutters about them using an unflattering picture of her.

At Society, Victor tells Michael he knows he’s considering taking on Claire’s case. He’s not there to criticize him; he understands Victoria’s compassion and need to help. However, he’s concerned about the emotional doors this will open for his daughter, who isn’t as tough as she thinks she is. The same goes for Nikki. Jordan is still a danger and he’s going to protect his family come hell or high water.

Victor tells Michael that as concerned as he is about Nikki and what they did to her, he’s also concerned about Victoria. A crazy woman nearly killed her and now claims to be her daughter. Michael points out she saved all of their lives. He’s convinced Jordan is a monster, but Claire Grace, not so much. There’s some real pain there. Victor gawps, “Give me a break, will you? You crazy or what? She’s putting you on, she’s pulling your leg, she’s nuts!” Michael argues she’s confused and troubled and is somebody’s child, “Maybe even Victoria and Cole’s.” Victor wonders what if she goes free and comes back to haunt them. Michael wants to give her a chance at a real life. Victor reiterates that she tried to kill all of them, “I want her behind bars.” Michael asks, “Even if she’s your granddaughter.” Victor tells him to stop with that nonsense. He doesn’t wish him well at the arraignment today.

At the ranch, Nikki hides her flask as Victoria comes into the room. She tells her mother, “I can’t believe this is happening.” She tells Nikki that Michael has agreed to take Claire’s case. He met with her, and he’s as convinced as she and Cole are that she’s a victim of Jordan’s. Nikki sniffs that she’s either a victim or an award-winning actress. Victoria knows that more questions need to be answered, but Michael’s on his way to Oregon today for Claire’s arraignment, she could be free on bail today. Nikki shouts, “Are you kidding me?!” Victoria says they want to move quickly on this. Nikki guesses she’s posting her bail, “Do you really think this is a good idea.” Victoria insists it’s the right thing to do. Nikki asks for a drink of water. When Victoria has her back turned, Nikki zips up the flask in her purse. Victoria explains they’re hoping to have Claire brought there and placed in a mental health facility to get the help she needs. Nikki worries this is part of a bigger scheme — playing on her sympathies and uncertainty. Claire could get out and her and Jordan could launch another deadly campaign on their family.

Victoria tells Nikki if Claire wants to get better, doesn’t she deserve a chance? Nikki realizes she’s closer to believing she’s her daughter. She points out she only agreed to a DNA test if they got her an attorney — it’s self-serving. What if she backs out? Victoria says Cole got items with her DNA from the lake house. Nikki thinks she’s playing on Victoria’s confusion and compassion and nothing good can come from that. Victoria grits, “She might be my daughter.” Nikki says that even if she is, too much time has passed, “You can’t go back.” Victoria has to focus on what’s in front of her right now. A vulnerable young woman who needs help and who has been corrupted and manipulated by Jordan’s obsession with their family.

In the motel room, Jordan calls the Genoa City police tipline to say she has information on the woman they’re looking for, “I’m afraid she’s going to do something to hurt that poor Newman family again.” She says she saw a woman matching her description at the motel in Genoa City, “I wanted to call you pronto. Yes, Southside Motel. Room 158.” With that, she disconnects. “Won’t be long now,” she tells herself as she packs up her bag. She exits, leaving the knife, the Newman photo album, and the photo of Eve in the motel room.

Victor joins Nikki and Victoria at the ranch and tells them a woman matching Jordan’s description was seen checking into a motel outside of town. He wants Nikki to stay at the ranch where she’s safe. Nikki won’t hide. She won’t let that woman hold her prisoner ever again. Victor doesn’t like this. Victoria wonders why she’s targeting Nikki instead of her dad. Victor explains it’s an old story. She wants to get even with him by hurting his wife. He gets a text and learns that they found evidence at the motel that Jordan is intending to do more damage. Nikki asks, “But she isn’t there?” Victor says, “No.” He’s going to go there himself. He calls Nick to meet him at the Club and orders Nikki to stay home. She agrees. Victoria offers to stay with her mother, but she insists she’ll be fine.

At Society, Summer approaches Chance and Christine, who says he was just telling her about his plans to leave the force. Summer thinks he’ll do amazing in the corporate world. Chance says he heard Chris is going back into pro bono work. She confirms it. Wishing Chance well, she starts to head out when she hears laughter and Phyllis and Danny appear together.

Phyllis says, “Cricket! What a surprise.” Christine says it sure is. Danny explains that Phyllis came by looking for Daniel and got him instead. Phyllis says she inspired one of Danny’s songs. He was working so hard that she begged him to go out with her. Christine asks to talk to Danny alone for a second. They step outside and she confronts him about having lunch with Phyllis. She realizes she sounds like a jealous teenager. Inside, Phyllis asks Summer and Chance if they’re grabbing lunch together. Summer explains they just ran into each other.

Outside, Danny reminds Christine that he and Phyllis share a son, and she’s struggling. Christine knows that she’s trying to be a better person. Danny believes it. She just needs help getting there. This lunch is just two old friends enjoying each other and reconnecting. Christine asks if that’s what their dinner was. Danny says no. He really hopes it was more and that they can do it again. They kiss. Inside, Phyllis watches and her eyes meet Christine’s.

At the Club, Victor finds Nick eyeballing Sally having lunch with Adam and glaring. Victor tells him to let this go. Nick agrees that it looks like Sally is exactly where she wants to be. They walk out. At their table, Sally and Adam conclude their lunch, smiling at each other. Adam admits he’s trying to figure out how to proceed. He asks if they’re ready for a date. Sally thinks they should go for it, “It’s kind of our style. Dinner it is.”

At the ranch, Nikki assures Victoria she’ll be fine. They embrace. Victoria leaves, warning her mother to call her if Jordan texts her or anything. Once Victoria’s gone, Nikki makes a beeline for the bar to fill up her flask. She takes a swig from the bottle and then fills the portable container. After, she tops up the vodka bottle with water so no one notices the missing alcohol.

At the motel, Victor and Nick enter the room and take in the knife, the photo of Eve, and the photo album. Victor thinks this is too easy — it’s obviously a set up.

Michael meets with Claire in the holding room, and she admits she’s surprised he came back. Michael tells her he’ll request her release so she can enter a mental health program. There is one thing he’s going to need her to do, however, “Plead guilty. By reason of insanity.”
