Margot Robbie wraps up in a long navy coat as she and Tom Ackerley brave the blustery NYC weather for a romantic date night

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley enjoyed a date night in NYC, on Sunday.

The Barbie actress wrapped up in a long navy coat as she and her film producer husband, both 33, braved the blustery weather.

Margot strolled along in a wide-leg pair of light grey trousers teamed with black boots, while toting her belongings in a large brown top-handle bag.

Tom rocked dark grey trainers with a long sleeved black jumper, which he wore with white trainers while forgoing a jacket.

The couple headed to their hotel with their heads down as they battled through the wind and rain.

It comes after Margot dashed any hopes of a Barbie sequel.

The actress, who starred as the title character in the blockbuster hit, told the Associated Press that the film was meant to be a standalone project at Variety’s Power of Women Gala earlier this month.

‘I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,’ the Australian beauty told the outlet.

She explained that director and screenwriter Greta Gerwig ‘put everything into this movie, so’ she ‘can’t imagine what would be next.’

Instead, the actress and producer hopes the success of the film, which has earned more than $1.4 billion worldwide, will lay the foundation for more original projects, especially those lead by women.

The Amsterdam star explained: ‘It doesn’t have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake. It can be totally original. It can still be big given the big budget to do that.’

Speaking from recent experience she asserted, ‘And just because there’s a female lead doesn’t mean it’s not going to hit all four quadrants which is, you know, I think a misconception that a lot of people still have. It’s really important that Barbie did well.’

‘As much as it is nice, it’s also really important that it does well so people can also in future have big, original ideas and be given the budget to execute them properly.’

Barbie is Warner Bros biggest hit to date, surpassing several Avengers and Star Wars films as well as the movies in the Harry Potter series.

Plans for a Barbie movie had been in the works for years, but it wasn’t until The Suicide Squad star bought the rights for Barbie from toymaker Mattel in 2018, that she was able to pursue the kind of project she wanted.

‘It really started with Margot. Margot invited me into the party. It was really a dream come true,’ the director told Entertainment Tonight in July.

‘When we were making the movie, it was so fun and so joyful… the talent was just extraordinary every day and every actor, every costume, every prop, everything was so just extraordinary.’

Margot isn’t turning her back on all sequels. She has reportedly signed to star in an upcoming Ocean’s Eleven film set in Monte Carlo in 1962. Her co-star is expected to be none other than her Barbie ‘Kenterpart’ Ryan Gosling.
