Messi Dabbles in Acting in Argentina’s ‘Los Protectores’ Series, Venturing into Film Realm?

Messi plays himself in the Argentinian football series “Los Protectores”.

According to AS, Messi appears in episode two, with a scene about 5 minutes long. The character chats with three football club presidents from Argentina, played by Adrian Suar, Andres Parra and Gustavo Bermudez.

They came to convince Messi to join a business plan, suggesting he play one match a day for different teams, in all Argentine tournaments to attract audiences and generate profits.

Messi was angry because initially, he agreed to meet these people because they said they wanted him to participate in a non-profit project, supporting young players who wanted to go to Europe to play. He said in the film: “Maybe you guys have found the wrong person. I will not participate in this project if it is for commercial purposes to make a profit. Obviously, we previously discussed another project.”

According to Marca, the scene was filmed in France last year, when Messi was still playing for Paris Saint Germain. Andres Parra, Messi’s co-star, commented that his acting was good and serious. On social networks, many Argentinian viewers said they were surprised by the football star’s realistic expressions. The producer has not revealed Messi’s other scenes.

Los Protectores is a comedy series about three football clubs that are in decline amid a difficult economic situation, having to find ways to escape bankruptcy. Season one airs in 2021, season two premieres June 25 on Star channel, Walt Disney’s platform in Latin America.

Messi, 36 years old, is one of the most successful contemporary football players. In the Argentina national team, Messi is the player who appears the most and also scores the most goals. He and his teammates won the Copa America 2021 and FIFA World Cup 2022 championships.
