Gal’s leggy display at the world premiere of Barbie comes just weeks after the film’s star, Margot Robbie, revealed she had been the first choice for the role.

Although fans had only ever seen Margot in the iconic role since pictures of her and Ryan Gosling on-set leaked last year, it has come to light since a few actresses had been offered the role over the past few years with Gal being a frontrunner.

Margot told Vogue in late May that she, as a producer on the project, and director Greta Gerwig had looked at Gal as one of their first choices for the Mattel doll.

She explained: “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Gal was not available for the role.

At the time she told BBC Arabic: “If you want to be true to the facts then Cleopatra was Macedonian. We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn’t there, and I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”

In a more recent interview with Vogue, Gal revealed: “Israel borders Egypt and I grew up with so many stories about Cleopatra, and she’s like a household name.

“We have a beautiful script and I cannot wait to share this story with the world and change the narrative of Cleopatra simply being a seductor.”
