Alien es una franquicia de ciencia ficción, terror y acción centrada en la serie de películas que representa a la suboficial Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) y sus batallas con una forma de vida extraterrestre, comúnmente conocida como “el Alien” o Xenomorfo.
Producida y distribuida por 20th Century Studios, la serie comenzó con Alien (1979), dirigida por Ridley Scott, y fue seguida por tres secuelas: Aliens (1986), dirigida por James Cameron; Alien 3 (1992), dirigida por David Fincher, y Alien Resurrection (1997), dirigida por Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Scott también dirigió una serie de precuelas, compuesta por Prometheus (2012) y Alien: Covenant (2017), que sigue las hazañas del androide David 8 y los creadores de las criaturas del mismo nombre conocidas como los “Ingenieros”.
La serie ha dado lugar a numerosas novelas, cómics, videojuegos y una próxima serie de televisión desarrollada por Scott para FX en Hulu, con Noah Hawley. Ha inspirado una serie de spin-offs, en particular la serie Alien vs. Predator, que combina las continuidades de la franquicia Alien con la franquicia Predator y consta de dos películas, así como varias series de cómics, libros y videojuegos.
