Snoop Dogg: From a notorious gang member to the world’s richest rapper, his dream when he gets old is simply to sell ice cream

Despite having a successful career and a fortune of $135 million, few people know that Snoop Dogg’s retirement wish is simply to sell ice cream. “Scoop” means “ice cream spoon”, which is enough to prove the “saltyness” of the American rapper!

Snoop Dogg (Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) is an American professional rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. As of 2019, the rapper’s net worth is about $135 million and this makes him one of the richest rappers in the world.

In addition to working in the entertainment field, Snoop Dogg is also an experienced businessman and investor.

Childhood

Snoop Dogg was born on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California. He is the second child in a poor family with three brothers. Snoop lived with his mother and stepfather after his father ran away from home when he was just three months old.

When he was young, he was often called “Snoopy” by his parents because he looked quite similar to the cartoon character. Later, this was part of the reason he took the stage name Snoop Dogg.

Young Calvin Cordozar Broadus started rapping in sixth grade and as a teenager, he was a member of Long Beach’s notorious Crips gang. In the past, Snoop has been “in and out of jail” many times. At that time, getting involved with the law could cost stars their careers, but fortunately, Snoop had not gone over the limit. After making many mistakes, he realized what he really wanted was to pursue a career in music, not become a gangster.

Therefore, he collaborated with rappers Nate Dogg and Lil 1/2 Dead to co-produce a number of songs.

Career

In 1992, a recording featuring Snoop accidentally came to Dr. Dre, a famous billionaire producer. Dre was extremely impressed after hearing the recording and decided to invite Snoop to audition.

Afterwards, Dre became an instructor for Snoop Dogg. Later that year, Snoop collaborated with Dre on the album “The Chronic”, one of the foundations that helped him succeed in his later solo career.

His debut album “Doggystyle” was a huge success and since then, Snoop Dogg has gradually established his name in the world music industry. Up to now, this rapper has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide, received 17 Grammy Award nominations and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

It is no coincidence that Snoop Dogg became one of the most famous and richest rappers in the world. To achieve success, he also had to go through many ups and downs in his career.

3 success lessons shared by Snoop Dogg:

1. Believe in yourself

When I was young, I didn’t know what I wanted to do but fortunately, after many stumbles, I found out what I wanted to do was music. And I love and cherish every moment of living with that passion. Even if I don’t make a lot of money or have a great career, I always tell myself to always believe in myself. That’s what I want to tell young people!

2. Be a unique version

The advice I give to young rappers is to be “unique”. That’s what helped me succeed in a music market full of competition and no shortage of talented people. You have to be yourself and create something personal to attract an audience.

3. Be more vibrant

One of the best pieces of advice I can give you is to be a little more vibrant. Many MCs have the ability to naturally stir up the programs they participate in. That makes it easier for me to integrate with the program and the audience. You should learn how to stir people up, of course appropriate to the situation. Then, you will receive sympathy and attention.

Snoop Dogg’s assets also made many people admire with 135 million USD. A lot of it comes from music. However, it is impossible not to mention this rapper’s business and investments.

In 2009, Snoop became the Creative President of the record label Priority Records. This was the beginning of his later business and investment projects. After that, Snoop actively pursued many ventures. His first investment was in a startup called Eaze. Not long after, Snoop Dogg launched a digital news website. Besides, he also owns and promotes his own cannabis brand Leafs By Snoop.

In 2016, when House of Chicken and Waffles, Roscoe’s restaurant chain specializing in fried chicken and waffles, was at risk of bankruptcy, Snoop Dogg decided to buy the company and take over the business.

Earlier this year, the rapper bought shares in financial technology company Klarna Bank. This is a Swedish startup valued at 2.5 billion USD in 2015 and is one of the largest banks in Europe currently operating in 14 countries around the world. Snoop Dogg shared: “I have cooperated and now want to invest in Klarna Bank. My plan is to continue to grow my investment portfolio.”

Snoop Dogg is one of the stars investing in “plant-based meat” startup Beyond Meat.

In addition, Snoop Dogg is also among the entertainment stars and billionaire Bill Gates, former CEO of McDonald’s and America’s largest meat processing corporation, to invest in the popular “plant-based meat” startup Beyond Meat. The most successful IPO from the beginning of 2019 until now in the US.

Despite having a successful career and admirable wealth, few people know that Snoop Dogg’s wishes when he gets old are very simple. He once said: “When I’m no longer a rapper, I will open an ice cream shop and change the name to Scoop Dogg.”
