Lionel Messi Joins Inter Miami on Ambitious Pre-Season Tour: 23,000 Miles Across El Salvador, Dallas, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will be travelling a ridiculous amount this pre-season as the club looks to cash in on its newfound global profile.

The Herons became a household name with the signings of MessiSergio Busquets and Jordi Alba last summer (and Luis Suarez this winter) and will embark on a tour of the Middle East and Asia ahead of the upcoming MLS season.

Now, the lengths to which Miami will be travelling have been revealed, as a video from Front Office Sports shows the club will fly over 23,000 miles in just three weeks.

The pre-season trip begins with a flight to El Salvador to face their national team on January 19, which FOS calculated at 1,019 miles.

The team will then fly back into the US to face FC Dallas at the Cotton Bowl on January 22 (1,402 miles) before making its way to Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi will be travelling all over the world during his club’s pre-season this winter.

The club has added Luis Suarez (left) alongside Messi (center) and Sergio Busquets (right).

The Herons will face Al-Hilal on January 29 in Riyadh – a matchup that will require a 7,793-mile trek from Dallas.

Miami will then face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr on February 1, which Miami will simply remain in Riyadh for, before flying 4,235 miles to Hong Kong.

There, Messi and his teammates will face a team of the Hong Kong Premier League’s best players on February 4.

After that, the team will fly 1,787 miles to face Vissel Kobe at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo on February 7 before finally heading home.

The trip back to Miami will require another 7,461 miles of travelling.

Inter Miami boss Tata Martino says he plans to rest the 36-year-old Messi throughout this year.

Back in South Florida, the Herons will stage one more pre-season test before the MLS season begins, as Messi will reunite with his childhood club Newell’s Old Boys on February 15.

Real Salt Lake will visit on February 21 to begin the regular season.

Messi had an extremely busy season last year, as his July arrival in Florida during the Leagues Cup came during his typical pre-season on a European schedule, with the team’s season running until November.

The attacker was also forced to miss several MLS games with a muscle injury.

However, Miami coach Tata Martino has said he will rest Messi throughout this season.
