Luis Suarez speaks

The Uruguayan officially signed with Inter Miami on December 22nd with much fanfare. Though many worried about his knees, Suarez told the media that he’s in good physical shape.

“I’m happy. Very happy. It’s a new challenge and a new team. There’s challenges here I’m happy to have. I’m motivated.”

A few months ago, the ex-Ajax man talked about his aching knees and how it’s difficult for him to play sometimes.

“The days before each game I take three pills and hours before playing I get an injection. If not, I can’t play. Hence, the limp,” he told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.

“The truth is that the first steps in the morning are very painful. Anyone who sees me thinks that it is impossible for me to play a game. My son asks me to play with him and I can’t.”

Regardless of his knee pain, Suarez said he nearly made the jump to MLS in 2020.

“In 2019, 2020 I already wanted to come to the MLS but since I felt good physically I decided to go to Atlético Madrid. When I went to Gremio there was also a possibility but I left it aside because I already had that contract.”

Though it took four more years, it will be a pleasure watching Suarez play in MLS this year.
