‘Nothing happening’… Chelsea will not be signing ‘special’ player despite Pochettino’s admiration

Fabrizio Romano has now shut down Chelsea’s chances of signing one player on a cut-price deal during the January transfer window.

He told Caught Offside that he has heard nothing regarding any efforts to sign Paulo Dybala, despite plenty of rumours linking the two parties.

Dybala has again been linked with a move out of Italy after it emerged just how achievable his release clause is.

A forward has certainly been at the top of their list of priorities going into this winter transfer window, after their attack has continued to look disjointed for the majority of the campaign.

Nicolas Jackson has brunted the majority of the blame, and he is not going to be available for the next month or so due to representing his country at the African Cup of Nations.

Despite cropping up in recent transfer reports, Romano has now claimed that there is no chance that a deal is reached between the two parties.

Romano confirms no Dybala

He said: “Despite rumours about Chelsea, I see Dybala staying at Roma as things stand. I have no updates, there’s nothing happening as of now and his release clause will expire in four days…so, it looks difficult and unlikely.

“I think Chelsea need a striker more than a top quality all-round attacking player like Dybala.”

It had been reported in the past that manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the Argentine, although it doesn’t look as if he is going to get his man this time around.

Some of the players are reportedly also big fans of the player, with Enzo Fernandez trying to convince him months ago to join.

The Blues have been strongly linked with the addition of Victor Osimhen instead from that league, however they are likely to going to be having to wait until the summer to get that deal over the line.
