“Him joining the MCU as Sentry would break the internet”: Campaign For Henry Cavill’s MCU Debut After Steven Yeun’s Exit Has Already Started

Fans are anticipating to see Henry Cavill in the MCU.

Known for embodying Superman in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill has long been a fan favorite for the role of The Sentry in the MCU. Earlier reports suggested that the character would be played by The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun in the upcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts. However, with recent news of Yeun’s exit from the project, it appears that their wish might finally come true and fans have already started campaigning for Cavill to assume the role.

Steven Yeun Departs From Marvel’s Thunderbolts

While the studio did not officially announce it, reports from early 2023 claimed that Steven Yeun is set to star as The Sentry in Marvel’s upcoming film Thunderbolts. The movie, following a team of antiheroes and villains, was slated to be released in 2024.

However, due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strike, its release has been pushed to July 2025. The filming for the movie is expected to start in the spring of 2024. But a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter claims that Yeun will not be starring in the upcoming film. Any potential reason for his departure from the movie has also not been revealed.

While the studio never made it official, Robert Kirkman revealed in an interview that Yeun was cast to play The Sentry in the MCU and even went for a costume fitting. The Invincible star has also addressed the casting on multiple occasions.

“Yeah, Jake Schreier, who did episodes of Beef, got the gig to direct [Thunderbolts], and then he saw me for this role,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In another interview with Empire, the actor shared that the character and the opportunity to work with Schreier drew him to the project.

Henry Cavill Fans Rooting For Him to Join the MCU

With Steven Yeun’s departure from Thunderbolts, fans have now started rooting for the British actor Henry Cavill to take on the role of The Sentry in the MCU. One of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe is known for his superhuman strength, speed, and intelligence and is expected to make his MCU debut alongside Thunderbolts.

And with Beef star’s exit from the movie, fans willing to see Cavill in the role have started rooting for the actor to portray the character in the MCU. One of the fans took to Twitter, stating how exciting it would be if Marvel Studios’ head, Kevin Feige, introduced Henry Cavill as Sentry at conventions like the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con.
