Carrie Bernans has shared photos of her horrific injuries after she was struck by a car near Madison Square Garden in New York City while celebrating New Year’s Eve.

A mass casualty incident was said to have been declared following the crash on West 34th Street and 9th Avenue. Three NYPD officers are also among those who were injured.

The Marvel actress, 29, was walking on the pavement with a friend when the car ploughed into a food truck she was stood beside, knocking her unconscious and pinning her beneath the stand.

Carrie has undergone surgery after sustaining serious injuries, including broken bones, fractures and chipped teeth, her family have said.

Police were called to the scene around 1:40am local time, as crowds would have been departing nearby Times Square after watching the ball drop to ring-in 2024.

The vehicle mounted the sidewalk and ran down civilians and cops before coming to a stop, reports suggest.

The driver, a 44-year-old male, is now in custody at Bellevue Hospital. It’s been reported that the police were chasing the car prior to the crash.

Sharing an update to Instagram on Carrie’s behalf, her mum wrote:  ‘Posted by Carrie’s mom. She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time, but appreciate the messages. This was a traumatic incident.

‘Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers. She’s in so much pain but healing. She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend & her were walking near. It ended up knocking her unconscious and pinned her under the stand. She was under it unaware of what was happening.

‘She has a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth but thanking God that she’s alive. Nine people were injured in his attempted escape from the hit & run, including 3 police officers.

‘Police caught him shortly after and arrested him. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.

‘This setback hasn’t deterred her belief that something remarkable is still being crafted by God. Despite the injuries sustained in the collision caused by a hit-and-run in NYC, she’s filled with hope and faith in the unfolding of a beautiful new chapter.

She added: ‘Thank you to all the first responders, police, strangers, my friend Katherine, family & friends who’s helped her.

‘*P.S., her son was not there. He was safe in a warm hotel room with family. And thank you to all who reached out.’

Pictures from the scene appear to show three cars involved in the wreck, two black cars and a yellow taxi. While a video showed a man being stretchered away, appearing to be conscious.

The incident began when cops came to intervene in a confrontation, one of those involved in the dispute, then tried to speed away from the scene, reports the New York Post.

The Post reports that a woman was pinned against a food truck and that the operator of that truck was also among the hurt.

A small army of NYPD officers were on patrols in the Big Apple on New Year’s Eve as part of a heightened security effort.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said there were ‘no specific threats’ to his city’s annual bash.

Nevertheless, police said they expanded the security perimeter around the party, creating a ‘buffer zone’ to allow them to head off potential demonstrations.

On New Year’s Eve 2022, a machete-wielding man attacked three police officers a few blocks from Times Square.
