On the 20th anniversary of his very first game against the Chicago Bulls, LeBron James recalls his struggles with the team with fondness.

LeBron James playing at the United Center on Wednesday night was a notable anniversary, as it marked the 20th anniversary of the first time he played against the Bulls. That game happened on December 20, 2003, when a then-18-year-old rookie led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 95-87 win over the Bulls.

Dominant youngster

Playing in front of the man who helped turn the United Center into the iconic venue it is today—Michael Jordan—LeBron displayed why he was hyped up as much as he was before reaching the NBA ranks, as he produced 32 points on 11-of-22 shooting, ten assists, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

“I saw him before the game,” James said right after that game.

“But I just wanted to play my game. I played a good game, I helped my team.”

Nothing to celebrate about

The Bulls ensured LeBron would have nothing to celebrate on Wednesday night. Even though “The King” had 25 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists, the Bulls had too much firepower, with different players scoring in double-figures.

That’s not to say LeBron doesn’t have fond memories of his time in Chicago, as he had some highly memorable performances at the United Center.

“Favorite moment? I mean, I have so many, to be completely honest with you. The battles that I had with DRose, Joakim (Noah) and Taj (Gibson), all those guys during those times,” LeBron said.

“The battles that I had with them, whatever team they had, it’s been fun.”
