50 Cent hits back at fat-shaming trolls after epic Super Bowl halftime performance

50 Cent’s appearance at the Super Bowl on Sunday was mocked by some viewers, but the rapper isn’t bothered by the comments as he knows ‘I can drop the weight

50 Cent came in for criticism for his appearance after surprising Super Bowl viewers in the epic halftime show on Sunday.

The rapper, 46, wasn’t expected to be part of the showcase but joined Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar in treating the fans to a brilliant performance.

However, after his upside-down entrance – which was a nod to his huge hit In Da Club’s video – some fans took to social media with less-than-kind words.

Some Internet trolls threw shade at his physique with the star looking to have gained a bit of weight.

He wasn’t prepared to let the words get to him though and has laughed off those who were mocking him.

Sharing a snap on Instagram of him alongside Eminem from the night, 50 Cent – whose real name is Curtis James Jackson – wrote: ” I call this teasing me, They’re just teasing me because they know i can drop the weight. that’s why i laugh with them.

His words gained him a lot of appreciation in the comments, with one fan saying: “My mans not even fat lol.”

Another agreed and commented: “Yeah you tell em 50! No insecurity around here.”

And a third said: “Haters mad cause he had a choke hold on the industry for 15 + years & still going strong with his t.v. shows straight power.

Others began rumours that his weight gain could actually be down to him needing to be heavier for a new film role, although there is no proof that this is the case.

He went on to use the added publicity to try to push his merchandise to his followers.

The musician’s appearance at the huge sporting event’s eagerly anticipated halftime show won rave reviews and the show was branded the “best ever” by Piers Morgan.

It also saw Lose Yourself singer Eminem take the knee – a gesture that had become a subject of controversy when former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick used it as an act of protest against police brutality and racial discrimination.

While there had been reports that the NFL had warned the star against doing so, they hit back at the claims and Dr Dre backed up the suggestions saying they only made “minor” tweaks to the performance.

Speaking to TMZ, Dre said: “There were a few things that we had to change but it was like really minor things.

“Em taking the knee that was him doing that on his own and there was no problem with that.”
