Trailer for Apple TV+’s ‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’ Docuseries Unveiled, Showcasing Argentina Star’s Journey to Glory in Qatar.

Apple TV+ has released a teaser ahead of the release of a four-part documentary on Lionel Messi’s long road to World Cup glory with Argentina.

‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’ takes supporters behind the scenes of Messi’s five World Cup appearances, culminating in victory in Qatar.

‘In his own words, Messi tells the definitive story of his incredible career with the Argentina national football team, providing an intimate and unprecedented look at his quest for a legacy-defining World Cup victory,’ Apple TV+ claims.

On Friday, a short trailer gave fans a glimpse of what to expect when the film debuts on Feburary 21, 2024.

The clip includes archive footage from Messi’s younger days, film from the Argentina team bus as well as interviews with Messi himself and football icon Gary Lineker.

The series will chart Messi’s journey from his international debut to Qatar, via several World Cup failures and even early retirement. It also promises ‘the most personal interviews to date with Messi, alongside conversations with teammates, coaches, competitors, devout fans and commentators.’

Last year’s showpiece saw the 36-year-old inspire Argentina to victory in the desert. Argetina lost its opening game of the tournament against Saudi Arabia before Messi dragged his country to the final.

There, against a France team led by Kylian Mbappe, Argentina triumphed on penalties after a dramatic 120 minutes at Lusail Stadium.

Victory in Qatar was the crowning moment of Messi’s glittering career and seven months later, the 36-year-old joined Major League Soccer.

His move to Inter Miami was also the subject of an Apple documentary. ‘Messi Meets America’ details the Argentinean’s new chapter in South Florida, where he helped Inter Miami win the first trophy in its history.

On Thursday, meanwhile, Messi’s match-worn World Cup final jersey was among a collection of his Argentina shirts that fetched $7.8million at auction – but the lot failed to break the record for sport’s most valuable memorabilia.

Six tops from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar were auctioned as a set by Sotheby’s in New York, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.

Bids closed at 12:01pm ET on Thursday, with the winning bid totalling $7,803,000. With minutes to go before the deadline, there had been only three bids with the highest at $6.5m.

The jerseys included Messi’s shirt from the first half of the World Cup final, the semi-final against Croatia, the quarter-final against Holland, and the round-of 16 match vs. Australia, as well two of the three group-stage games.
